Remote Game Audio Internships information

What is a remote game audio internship?

Remote game audio internships are temporary work experiences where interns assist in the creation and implementation of audio elements for video games, such as music, sound effects, and voiceovers, while working from a remote location. These internships typically involve collaborating with audio teams, learning industry-standard software, and gaining hands-on experience in audio design and editing for games. They are ideal for students or aspiring game audio professionals who want to build their skills and network in the gaming industry without needing to relocate.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote game audio intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Game Audio Intern, you need a foundational understanding of sound design, audio editing, and a passion for interactive media, often gained through coursework or personal projects in audio production. Familiarity with digital audio workstations (DAWs) like Pro Tools or Reaper, middleware such as FMOD or Wwise, and basic knowledge of game engines like Unity is typically required. Strong communication, time management, and the ability to collaborate remotely are standout soft skills for this position. These abilities are vital for producing high-quality audio assets, integrating them into games effectively, and working efficiently in distributed teams.

What are some common challenges faced by remote game audio interns, and how can they overcome them?

Remote game audio interns often encounter challenges such as limited real-time collaboration with the audio team and difficulty accessing project assets or feedback promptly. To overcome these, interns should proactively communicate with mentors and team members using collaboration tools like Slack or Discord. Setting regular check-ins and asking for clear feedback on deliverables will help interns stay aligned with project goals. Additionally, being organized and managing time effectively is crucial to meet deadlines in a remote environment.

WE ARE GAME MAKERS

Who We Are:

We are a diverse team of developers driven by a passion for our art, united by our core values and inspired by a culture of inclusivity to build amazing games that thrill players everywhere. You have proven expertise in leading mechanics and systems-based teams and features, developing people and building buy-in through strong working relationships across disciplines to bring things into reality. • Maintain and enforce good executional standards and practices for scripting and design execution - including in-engine and documentation

What Will Make You a Great Fit:

  • 8+ years of professional game design experience, including at least 1 year managing, mentoring, and maintaining accountability for multiple designers within a feature team or area on a AAA development team.

  • Background in shaping and building a live-service game or major live-service systems from development through launch.

  • Proven experience designing and leading multiplayer features that touch multiple systems and need strong integration - such as game mode, characters, economy, progression, etc.

  • Theory-crafting skillset & past experience designing for depth and multiplayer gameplay.

  • Deep understanding of the various components (UI, Art, Engineering, Audio, VFX, etc.) to ensure gameplay is cohesive and integrated

  • Proactive approach that creates movement in the right direction

  • Capable of rapidly filtering large volumes of feedback into concrete and useful improvements

  • Adept at managing, articulating and advocating for effective tradeoffs

  • Well-played in the multiplayer PvP / Competitive Space and able to deconstruct what works and why.

  • Capability to abstract designs outside of single solutions into patterns and models of player behavior; providing options and flexible design solutions

  • Strong experience with Unreal Engine and Blueprint visual scripting; programming experience (C++, C#, etc.) is a plus.
