Senior Data Center Risk Management Specialist - NYC
This opportunity is working directly with an established best-in-class Insurance broker in the NYC region whose focus is in providing mission-critical data center policies. This company provides turnkey data center centric insurance solutions that are custom-fit to the requirements of their client's ever-changing mission-critical facilities operational and construction needs. They support some of the most complex, capital-intensive infrastructure projects in the United States and Europe for mission-critical facilities for many of the world's largest organizations (Hyperscale and Enterprise Customers).

This role will provide immediate exposure to billion-dollar, mission-critical infrastructure projects; Direct influence on capital protection, financing velocity, and enterprise value; Ability to build and own a premier data center risk practice within a respected brokerage that has a long-term runway with sophisticated clients and repeatable demand. We are seeking a Senior Data Center Risk Management Specialist that will partner with firm leadership and serve as the SME / subject matter expert for data center construction and operations risk. As a senior operator, focus will be on program design, lender-aligned insurance architecture, and execution oversight across hyperscale and enterprise data center development projects. The successful leader will bring immediate credibility when attending data center conferences, tenant and lender forums and will play a central role in protecting capital, accelerating financing, and enabling long-term client retention.

Risk Specialist will report directly to the Principal and will function as an internal risk and insurance architect, embedded within the brokerage. This role will not require book-carrying or have quota responsibilities. Candidate will operate autonomously and work directly with clients, developers, lenders, and general contractors. Risk Specialist will support multiple data centers under construction and in operation across Northern Virginia, NY / NJ, and the EU. Project sizes varying from Developers scaling from $200โ€“$350M projects to $1B+ hyperscale builds. Candidate will compete directly with global brokerages (e.g., Marsh, Aon) where technical credibility with data center knowledge is paramount.

Responsibilities

  • Candidate will De-risk project financing through sophisticated insurance architecture
  • Own OSIP / CCIP governance and subcontractor compliance
  • Provide โ€œstreet-credโ€ representation in engineering and tenant meetings
  • Build a repeatable, scalable data center risk playbook for the firm
  • Design and execute insurance placement strategies for data center construction and live operations
  • Manage and align expectations with lender covenants, financing requirements, and capital partners
  • Structure retentions, limits, and coverage to optimize cost without compromising protection
  • Own and administer Owner-Controlled Insurance Programs covering owners, general contractors, and subcontractors
  • Enforce enrollment standards, policy compliance, and ongoing vetting across all project participants
  • Partner with GC safety and risk teams to maintain audit-ready compliance
  • Participate in weekly or bi-weekly risk reviews with general contractors
  • Track engineering progress, budgets, asset values, and exposure shifts throughout the build lifecycle
  • Identify and mitigate emerging risks before they impact schedule, cost, or insurability
  • Lead insurance-related provisions in lease negotiations, typically prior to shovels hitting the ground
  • Represent the firm credibly in tenant, engineering, and owner meetings
  • Translate technical risk concepts into clear, decision-ready guidance for non-insurance stakeholders
  • Build a standardized, lender-compliant data center risk framework
  • Elevate Company's standing with developers, lenders, and counterparties
  • Act as the subject-matter authority / SME for all data center risk engagements within the organization

Qualifications

  • Deep, hands-on expertise in data center construction and operations risk
  • Proven experience designing and administering OSIP/CCIP programs
  • Demonstrated success working with lenders, developers, and large GCs on complex projects
  • Prior experience with hyperscale, enterprise, or mission-critical infrastructure assets

  • Executive gravitas and comfort operating in high-stakes, high-visibility environments
  • Consultative mindset with ability to operate independently while integrating seamlessly with leadership
  • Preference: Long Island / New York Metro / or remote / hybrid if outside the region
  • Periodic travel to active data center sites in the U.S. and Europe may be required
