What is a remote first energy lineman?

A Remote First Energy Lineman is a skilled technician responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical power lines and related equipment, often in remote or hard-to-access locations. The 'Remote First' aspect means that the lineman may use advanced technologies such as remote monitoring, drones, and digital communication tools to oversee and manage power infrastructure from a distance. This approach helps reduce the need for on-site presence, improves safety, and increases efficiency in servicing energy networks. Remote First Energy Linemen still need to travel to worksites when physical repairs are required, but much of their work is coordinated using remote systems.

What is the difference between Remote First Energy Lineman vs Utility Lineworker?

AspectRemote First Energy LinemanUtility Lineworker
CredentialsClimbing certifications, CDL, safety trainingClimbing certifications, CDL, safety training
Work EnvironmentPrimarily remote, on-site at utility sites, outdoorOutdoor, on utility poles, underground lines
Employer & IndustryElectric utility companies, renewable energy projectsPublic and private utility companies

The Remote First Energy Lineman and Utility Lineworker roles share similar credentials and work environments, focusing on outdoor electrical infrastructure. The key difference is that Remote First Energy Lineman emphasizes remote work coordination and project management, often involving remote communication tools, while Utility Lineworkers are more hands-on, working directly on utility lines. Both roles are essential in maintaining electrical infrastructure, but the Remote First position offers more flexibility with remote tasks.

What unique challenges do remote first energy linemen face, and how are they typically addressed?

Remote First Energy Linemen often work in isolated or difficult-to-access areas, which can pose challenges such as limited onsite support and challenging weather conditions. To address these issues, teams rely heavily on advanced communication tools, remote monitoring technology, and thorough pre-job planning. Safety protocols are emphasized, and linemen are typically equipped with specialized vehicles and tools to ensure both efficiency and safety. Frequent training and strong collaboration with remote technical and dispatch teams help ensure uninterrupted operations and professional development.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote first energy lineman?

To thrive as a Remote First Energy Lineman, you need solid electrical linework skills, a high school diploma or equivalent, and completion of a lineman apprenticeship or technical training program. Proficiency with specialized tools, remote monitoring systems, and safety equipment is typically required, along with relevant certifications such as OSHA or CPR. Strong problem-solving abilities, teamwork, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for managing remote operations and ensuring safety. These competencies are vital to maintaining reliable energy distribution, minimizing downtime, and safeguarding both the lineman and the public in remote environments.

Job description

About The Role
As an Account Executive & Growth, Utilities at Nira, you will drive both new business and account expansion within the utility sector. You will own the full sales cycle-from identifying high-potential prospects and engaging them, to presenting Nira's value, closing deals, and expanding revenue with existing customers. You'll become a subject-matter expert in transmission planning, positioning Nira as a strategic advantage for utilities aiming to improve their transmission planning processes and studies.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex customer problems, is deeply curious about the grid, and is passionate about shaping the future of energy transition.

What You'll Do

  • Prospect and engage utility organizations to initiate discussions about how Nira can benefit their transmission planning and grid analysis workflows.
  • Lead conversations with utility stakeholders to uncover business needs, present Nira solutions, and define meaningful next steps to maintain momentum.
  • Employ effective business development tactics to shorten long sales cycles.
  • Develop and present measurable business cases and ROI scenarios for utility partners.
  • Build and manage multi-stakeholder relationships with utility leaders across departments (e.g., Transmission Planning, IT, Legal, Commercial).
  • Develop and validate proof-of-concept (POC) programs to demonstrate Nira automation capabilities to utility leaders.
  • Create tailored solutions based on customer needs and facilitate complex discussions with technical and non-technical buyers.
  • Address objections and demonstrate Nira's value through compelling use cases and demonstrations.
  • Own the end-to-end sales cycle: prospect, qualify, demo, negotiate, and close.
  • Develop clear proposals and statements of work (SOWs) that articulate objectives, functionality, KPIs, and next steps.
  • Translate POCs into scalable product subscriptions with utility teams.
  • Monitor user feedback and maintain a pulse on client satisfaction to support retention and expansion.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (Transmission Planners, Software Engineers, and Product) to align on customer needs and product direction.
  • Maintain accurate CRM records, track pipeline, and forecast with discipline.
  • Communicate credibly with technical and non-technical buyers alike.
  • Stay informed on transmission planning regulations and market structures across US jurisdictions.

About You

  • 5+ years of experience in energy or utility business development; startup experience is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of utility business dynamics and, ideally, transmission planning frameworks.
  • You love building relationships, own your work, and are motivated by outbound prospecting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; you can navigate technical discussions with confidence.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and thrives in fast-moving environments.
  • Passionate about accelerating the energy transition and delivering measurable impact.
  • Persistent, resourceful, and coachable; you thrive with ambiguity and can adapt quickly.
  • Comfortable engaging with executive and technical stakeholders, including cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to articulate value in terms of business outcomes and measurable KPIs.
  • Knowledge of regulatory processes and market dynamics in the US is a plus.
What We Offer
  • $150,000-$200,000 base salary
  • Uncapped commission
  • Equity in a fast-growing climate tech startup
  • Remote-first culture with a growing presence in NYC
  • Health, dental, vision, and 401k.
