Position Overview

The Director of Nonprofit Finance Reporting will lead the financial reporting function for the Partner Solutions Finance Team to ensure efficient and accurate capture of non-profit activities for 200+ projects across 501(c)(3) and (c)(4) entities. This Director role will be responsible for managing month-end close and project reporting, quarterly financial statements, board reports, and annual audits of the non-profit funds. This role requires strong technical knowledge of non-profit Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), the ability to manage multiple projects across a variety of stakeholders, and a solutions orientation.

What You’ll Do

Nonprofit Financial Reporting

  • Oversee monthly close activities to enable the timely and accurate issuance of financial statements to 200+ fiscally sponsored 501c4 and 501c3 projects
  • Manage and oversee the General Ledger reconciliation process ensuring accuracy and timely resolution of recognized discrepancies
  • Lead the annual audit process which includes working with external auditors, preparing and reviewing support schedules, and ensuring the accuracy of financial statements
  • Participate in the design, build, and implementation of a new accounting system and financial reporting solution
  • Address complex client service and financial reporting needs and resolve problems by investigating and proposing solutions that meet project requirements, non-profit GAAP, and entity policy
  • Research and draft memos justifying the accounting treatment of unique financial transactions

Team Operations

  • Lead and consult on internal finance team projects and cross-team initiatives to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and service delivery
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies and procedures
  • Develop and monitor financial reporting operational policies
  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight in the areas of non-profit financial reporting, accrual accounting, and other aspects of technical accounting capture of operational activities
  • Stay informed of changes in non-profit and financial reporting requirements to ensure GAAP compliance
  • Hold trainings and implement solutions to address needs
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and performance feedback within the financial reporting service group and across the finance team; utilizing company-sanctioned practices and programs
  • Partner with other Finance Directors and Senior Directors to lead the Partner Solutions Finance Team

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in accounting required
  • CPA preferred
  • Seven or more years of relevant professional experience in public accounting and/or a complex large-scale non-profit organization
  • Three or more years’ experience in managing a team of accountants operating across varied workstreams
  • Proficiency in accounting system workflows, Microsoft Excel, and PowerBI
  • Transaction-level understanding of non-profit GAAP and entity-level understanding of non-profit financial reporting
  • Excellence in analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Solutions orientation that builds trust in partnerships within and across teams

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $110,000 - $128,000. Our salary ranges are based on national compensation benchmarks of similar sized companies in professional services. This position is eligible for an annual bonus at 10% of the annual salary.

Location Requirements

This is a full-time position. The preferred location for this position is hybrid in Washington, DC or Durham, NC. The position can operate on a hybrid schedule, based in our Washington, DC, or Durham, NC offices, or it can be fully remote from the following locations: Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, or Virginia.

If a new hire is within proximity of our Washington, DC or Durham, NC offices, the expectation during onboarding (~90 days) is that you come into the office a minimum of 3 days per week. After this onboarding period, employees can then come into the office on a more flexible schedule with the remaining days worked at home/remotely.
