Job description

Position: Field Service Engineer – Marine Diesel Engines

Location: Houston, TX

Compensation: $40.00 - $50.00 / Hourly

Benefits: medical, dental, vision, PTO

A leading global services organization supporting the marine, power, and industrial sectors is seeking a highly experienced Field Service Engineer based in Houston, TX. This role supports engine services and maintenance across the Americas and Gulf of Mexico with 50-70%+ travel required.

This is a hands-on, lead technical role responsible for overseeing and executing major service and overhaul work on 2-stroke and 4-stroke medium-speed diesel engines used in marine and power generation environments. The ideal candidate will bring deep field experience, strong mechanical expertise, and the ability to lead crews during complex multi-day engine overhauls.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and execute major engine overhauls (24–78+ hour projects) including piston pulls, inspections, and rebuilds
  • Direct field teams during maintenance of 2-stroke and 4-stroke diesel engines and related systems
  • Perform and oversee precision measurements (bore, deflection, backlash, ovality, wear, alignment) using gauges and diagnostic tools
  • Lead troubleshooting and repair of major engine components (cylinder heads, liners, pumps, fuel systems, turbochargers, etc.)
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols, lead toolbox talks, and manage job site safety compliance
  • Prepare scopes of work, coordinate tooling and logistics, and manage job documentation and reporting
  • Communicate directly with customers, ship superintendents, and internal coordinators throughout service execution
  • Train and mentor junior technicians and ensure quality control of all technical work and measurements

Requirements:

  • 8–10+ years of experience in diesel engine service, marine engineering, or heavy mechanical/power systems
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of medium-speed 4-stroke and large 2-stroke diesel engines
  • Experience with major engine platforms such as EMD, Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), Sulzer, or similar
  • Proven ability to lead large-scale engine overhauls and field service teams
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with precision measurement and diagnostic tools
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals and execute complex repair procedures independently
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required (technical degree preferred but not required)
  • Valid driver’s license
  • TWIC card and passport required or ability to obtain
  • Willingness to travel extensively (50%+) including international and remote locations
  • Ability to work in extreme environments and meet physical demands of field service work
