Immediate opening for a Field Service Engineer supporting the Boston, MA area who possesses:

  • Degree in Bioengineering, multidisciplinary engineering, biology, chemistry, optical engineering, or a related field
  • 3+ years of hands-on instrumentation or capital equipment service experience within the biotech, medical device, or life sciences industries
  • Willingness to travel 50% to 75% domestically and internationally
  • Knowledge of IQ/OQ/PQ and wet lab skills preferred


FULL DESCRIPTION: We are seeking a Field Service Engineer to provide technical support, installation, repair, calibration, preventative maintenance, inspection, validation, and customer support for life science instrumentation. This permanent, remote role supports customer sites primarily within the assigned territory and requires significant domestic and international travel. The ideal candidate will have hands-on instrumentation or capital equipment service experience, a background in science or engineering, strong troubleshooting skills, comfort working independently in the field, and experience supporting biotech, medical device, or life sciences customers.


The selected candidate will be responsible for:

  • Managing, performing, and documenting on-site installation, repair, calibration, preventative maintenance, inspection, and testing tasks for life science instrumentation
  • Supporting BLI instrumentation and related technical equipment
  • Adjusting coordinates, spectrometer parameters, parts, and related system components as needed
  • Diagnosing alarms, errors, technical issues, mechanical problems, and system concerns
  • Implementing proper solutions to reduce downtime and improve customer experience
  • Performing and documenting system validation, including IQ/OQ/PQ
  • Triaging, scheduling, and providing customer support by phone, email, and customer visits
  • Visiting customer sites to support installations, repairs, calibration, preventative maintenance, inspections, and service needs
  • Completing associated service paperwork and documentation accurately
  • Reporting quality issues through appropriate quality systems
  • Documenting tasks performed at customer sites within CRM or service systems
  • Logging customer visits and generating service-related documentation
  • Communicating effectively with customers, project teams, engineering, sales, and internal team members
  • Prioritizing and planning work activities to make efficient use of time
  • Providing recommendations related to products in development
  • Supporting technical troubleshooting involving instrumentation and assays as needed
  • Using wet lab skills such as pipetting and making dilutions as needed
  • Representing the company professionally while building and maintaining positive customer relationships
  • Producing timely and accurate expense reports
  • Completing training and shadowing requirements as needed
  • Traveling domestically and internationally as required
  • Performing other duties as assigned

The selected candidate will also possess:

  • Bachelor's degree in Bioengineering, Engineering, Optical Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, or related field required
  • 3+ years of hands-on instrumentation service experience required
  • Instrumentation or capital equipment service experience within biotech, medical device, or life sciences required
  • 5 to 6 years of field service or instrumentation experience preferred
  • Experience troubleshooting, testing, repairing, and servicing technical or mechanical equipment required
  • Experience with BLI instrumentation preferred
  • Experience with SPR or related life science instrumentation preferred
  • Basic wet lab skills preferred
  • Pipetting and dilution experience preferred
  • Knowledge of IQ/OQ/PQ preferred
  • Ability to adapt to changes in work schedule and travel plans required
  • Ability to travel 50% to 75% domestically and internationally required
  • Strong customer service skills required
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills required

  • Ability to wear required PPE and follow applicable customer site, lab, travel, and safety procedures
