Remote Fibre Network Planner information

What is a remote fibre network planner?

Remote Fibre Network Planners are professionals who design and plan fibre optic networks for telecommunications, typically working from a remote location rather than on-site. They use specialized software and mapping tools to create detailed layouts and documentation for the installation and maintenance of fibre networks. Their work ensures that fibre infrastructure is efficiently deployed, meeting technical standards and regulatory requirements. These planners collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, and field technicians to optimize the network's performance and reliability.

What are the main challenges remote fibre network planners face when coordinating with field teams?

Remote Fibre Network Planners often encounter challenges in aligning digital plans with real-world site conditions due to limited on-site visibility. Effective communication with field engineers and contractors is crucial to ensure designs are feasible and accurately implemented. Project timelines can be affected by unforeseen obstacles such as local regulations, terrain difficulties, or utility conflicts, so proactive collaboration and regular updates are essential. Utilizing digital mapping tools and maintaining detailed documentation can help bridge the gap between remote planning and on-the-ground execution.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote fibre network planner, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Fibre Network Planner, you need a solid understanding of telecommunications infrastructure, fibre optic network design, and relevant engineering principles, often backed by a degree or equivalent experience in a related field. Proficiency with GIS software, AutoCAD, network planning tools, and knowledge of industry standards or certifications like CNIT or FOA are typically required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders. These abilities ensure accurate, efficient, and scalable network designs that support business objectives and customer satisfaction.

Job description

This is a remote position.

Position Title: Senior Network Planning Engineer

The role requires demonstrated experience using GIS, spatial analysis, network data, and demand modeling to determine where fiber should be deployed and to guide network expansion and investment decisions. Candidates whose experience is primarily limited to OSP route design, permitting, construction drawings, or field engineering will not be a strong match unless they also have substantial experience applying GIS to strategic fiber planning.

Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, 401k, flexible spending account, paid sick leave and paid time off, parental leave, quarterly performance bonus, training, career growth and education reimbursement programs.
