Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct initial assessments through preliminary interviews, documenting clients' mental, behavioral, and emotional health from the first consultation to the conclusion of treatment.
  • Design and implement individualized intervention and recovery plans for diverse populations including individuals, couples, families, and groups, tailored to the unique needs of each client.
  • Facilitate effective individual and group therapy sessions, utilizing various therapeutic modalities and techniques to engage clients in their recovery journeys.
  • Continuously monitor client progress throughout treatment, making necessary adjustments to therapy approaches, and ensuring alignment with established goals.
  • Collaborate with a range of healthcare professionals, including psychiatrists, social workers, and nurses, to develop integrated intervention plans that enhance patient outcomes.
  • Coordinate follow-up support for clients who have been hospitalized, partnering with attending physicians and psychiatrists to ensure a smooth transition back into outpatient care.
  • Identify and proactively mitigate behaviors that may impede recovery, offering insights and strategies both to clients and their family members.
  • Support primary caregivers by providing guidance on managing mental and behavioral challenges their loved ones may face.
Patient Population / Client Focus

The counselor will work with a diverse client population experiencing various mental health challenges, ranging from anxiety and depression to more complex conditions requiring comprehensive care. You will be instrumental in fostering therapeutic alliances that encourage clients to face their struggles, work towards healing, and develop coping strategies that promote long-term wellness.

Qualifications
  • A master’s or doctoral degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Mental Health Counseling, or Psychology from a recognized and accredited institution.
  • Active, valid licensure as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of Illinois.
  • Successful completion and passing scores on the National Counselor Exam (NCE) and/or the National Clinical Mental Health Counseling Examination (NCMHCE).
  • Demonstrated experience working as a mental health counselor, showcasing deep clinical understanding and practical application of psycho-therapeutic techniques.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record systems, specifically AVATAR, ensuring accurate and efficient documentation of client interactions and treatment plans.
  • A strong knowledge base regarding co-occurring physical and emotional health conditions, including addiction disorders, and how they intersect with mental health issues.
  • Acquaintance with the American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA) best practices and ethical guidelines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, crucial for effective client interaction and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills that reflect a compassionate and empathetic nature, essential for building rapport with clients.
Preferred Experience
  • Prior exposure to family therapy, group dynamics, and trauma-informed care methodologies will be considered an asset.
