What are remote event jobs?

Remote event jobs involve planning, coordinating, and managing events entirely online or from a remote location. These roles can include positions such as virtual event coordinators, event marketers, technical support staff, and online moderators. The responsibilities often include organizing webinars, virtual conferences, or online workshops, handling digital event platforms, and ensuring smooth communication among participants. Remote event professionals use various digital tools to execute successful events and often collaborate with teams and clients across different time zones.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals organizing remote events, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals organizing remote events often encounter challenges such as maintaining participant engagement, managing technical issues, and ensuring smooth communication among team members. To address these, it's important to invest in reliable virtual event platforms, create interactive sessions (like polls or breakout rooms), and establish clear guidelines for team roles and communication channels. Regular rehearsals and contingency plans can also help minimize disruptions and ensure a seamless experience for attendees.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote event coordinator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Event Coordinator, you need strong organizational abilities, event planning experience, and often a background in communications or hospitality. Familiarity with virtual event platforms (such as Zoom, Hopin, or Webex), project management tools, and sometimes certification in event management (like CMP) are valuable. Excellent time management, problem-solving, and interpersonal communication skills set top performers apart in this role. These competencies are crucial for successfully executing engaging online events, managing logistics remotely, and ensuring positive experiences for all participants.

Remote Event and Remote Conference Coordinator roles both involve organizing virtual gatherings. However, Remote Event roles often encompass a broader range of event types, including webinars, workshops, and online celebrations, while Remote Conference Coordinators specifically focus on planning and executing online conferences and large-scale meetings. Both require strong organizational skills and familiarity with virtual tools, but the Conference Coordinator role typically demands more experience in managing complex schedules and multiple stakeholders.

At Servus Credit Union, we do things differentlyโ€”because weโ€™re a credit union, not a bank. And that difference matters.ย

We believe in putting people before profits, which is why our members are also our owners. Every dollar we earn is reinvested into the things that matter most: our members, our employees, and our communities. Whether itโ€™s through profit sharing, competitive rates, or local initiatives that make a real impact, weโ€™re here to help Albertans feel good about their money.ย

Weโ€™re looking for passionate, values-driven people to join our team. We welcome individuals from all backgrounds who are aligned with our values and are eager to contribute in meaningful ways. If you're excited to grow your career with a team thatโ€™s innovative, hardworking, collaborative and deeply rooted in community, we want to meet you.ย

ย Join Servus and discover a better way to work.ย

Reporting to the Director Reputation and Member Engagement and supporting the Head of Communications and a team of communicators, this role is a key contributor to a variety of projects and initiatives from across the Communications Division, including internal, external and member communications. With a heavy focus on tactical output, this position plays an integral role in bringing the Servus story and brand to life across all of Servusโ€™s communications channels.

In addition to supporting project work, the role also provides coordination, administrative, and logistical support for initiatives within the Department, including for team meetings and project tracking in Asana.

What youโ€™ll be doing:

  • Write content for a variety of communications channels, encompassing a range of formats including print, digital and video.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support to team initiatives.
  • Support the Head of Communications and the Communications Leadership Team as required.
  • Provide backup support for publishing across all channels.
  • Assist with initiatives designed to drive social media amplification amongst staff and members.
  • Work with colleagues to support and identify reputational threats across Servus's social media platforms.ย
  • Support the team to manage proactive and reactive media relations activities including delivering timely media responses, supporting earned media opportunities, and supporting the coordination of paid media opportunities
  • Collaborate with and provide communications support to a team of Strategic Communications Partners and Communications Leads on key portfolios and strategic initiatives across Servus.
  • Provide logistical support for Department initiatives, including townhalls and internal/external events, including coordination and booking of events.
  • Support monitoring and reporting across the Division through compiling analytics and updating reports.
  • Other duties as required

What you bring:ย

Experience:

  • Degree or diploma in communications, public relations or a related field.
  • 2-4 years of communications experience.
  • Strong writing skills are preferred.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Certification: IABC or CPRS membership is considered an asset.

Any otherย special requirementsย necessary to do the job:ย

  • Remote first
  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to meet business needs, support special projects or contribute to crisis or issues management. Travel within Alberta, and occasional in-office attendance in Edmonton or Calgary, may be required.

Most importantly, we're looking for candidates whose personal values align with our cooperative values. These values are evident in everything we do everyday. We're not afraid to be different from our competitors and in fact we embrace these differences. We celebrate our credit union culture and history, and we pride ourselves on our strong commitment to our member-owners and to the communities we serve.

Why Servus?ย

Working for Servus has outstanding benefits. In addition to standard benefits like health and wellness, vacation and retirement savings programs, we also provide other important benefits such as:ย

  • Competitive compensation including performance-based incentive pay and profit shareย
  • Training & Development Opportunitiesย
  • Career Advancement Potential
  • Flexible work optionsย
  • Meaningful work towards individual and corporate goalsย
  • Opportunities to get involved and give back through an employee volunteer programย

At Servus, our employees are also members. This means you'll have all the benefits of being a member of the credit union including profit sharing, voting for the board of directors, and all of the financial services we provideโ€ฆwith a few additional perks!ย

What happens next?

We thank all applicants for their interest. Please note applications will only be accepted online and only those applicants under consideration will be contacted.ย
