What does a remote environment artist intern do?

A Remote Environment Artist Intern assists in creating digital environments for video games, movies, or virtual experiences while working from a remote location. Their responsibilities typically include modeling, texturing, and lighting 3D assets to bring virtual worlds to life under the guidance of senior artists. Interns also collaborate with other team members through online communication tools, learning industry-standard software and workflows. This role provides valuable hands-on experience and helps build a portfolio for a future career in environment art.

What are some common challenges faced by remote environment artist interns, and how can they be overcome?

As a Remote Environment Artist Intern, one common challenge is maintaining clear communication and alignment with the team when working from different locations. To overcome this, it's important to proactively participate in regular video meetings, share progress updates, and ask for feedback through collaboration tools. Additionally, managing your own time and staying motivated in a remote setting can be difficult; setting daily goals and maintaining a structured routine can help. Building strong relationships with mentors and teammates will not only support your learning but also enhance your contributions to collaborative projects.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote environment artist intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Environment Artist Intern, you need a solid understanding of 3D modeling, texturing, and digital art fundamentals, often backed by coursework or a portfolio. Job description

ABOUT US
ARRISE is a global leader in software development and services for the iGaming industry, powered by 11,000+ professionals spanning multiple disciplines and 14 locations worldwide.
At ARRISE, we know a thing or two about making great games. From concept to execution, we combine creativity with technical excellence to shape the future of player engagement, driving our business and industry forward.
Our teams plan, prepare, and produce every title in a packed multi-product roadmap, having created over 1,800 slots to date. Game artists, developers, mathematicians, sound technicians, product marketers, regulatory experts, and other stakeholders from across the business all work together on delivering new player favorites at scale and pace.
ARRISE USA represents our growing footprint in one of the world’s most dynamic tech and entertainment markets. With a remote team of product experts, we’re tapping into American talent to drive the next generation of iGaming innovation.

ABOUT THE ROLE
We’re building a brand-new, US-based, fully remote game studio developing new slot games and we’re looking for an experienced Senior Mathematician to develop the math models that power our games.
In this role, you’ll work with an experienced Game Designer to create new slot game math models with high-performing mechanics, ensuring they are accurate, fair, and engaging.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
  • Define the mathematical profile of the game, including the game’s balance, volatility, and player experience
  • Create and maintain the game’s PAR sheets and other math documentation, using both Excel and simulations
  • Work closely with the Game Designer, prototyping team, and engineering team to ensure the math is implemented accurately and follows the overall game design
  • Playtest and iterate on your game’s math and mechanics with an eye toward creating the best player experience possible
  • Collaborate with other mathematicians to provide gameplay feedback and recommendations for improvement on each other’s games
  • Regularly play competitors’ games in the iGaming and land-based spaces to stay abreast of industry trends and new mechanics
  • Set and share best practices, tools, and workflows within the math team
  • Mentor new junior mathematicians as our studio grows
WHAT WE ASK OF YOU
  • 5+ years of experience developing math models for real-money slot games for iGaming or land-based markets
  • Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Strong expertise using Excel to model probabilities and perform data analysis
  • Familiarity programming in C++, C#, or Python
  • Excellent written communication skills, especially the ability to clearly communicate complex and technical concepts to stakeholders across the globe
  • Up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, emerging game mechanics, and player expectations
  • You should:
    • Be comfortable moving between multiple projects while maintaining a high attention to detail
    • Bring strong organization and structure to a fast-moving environment
    • Have a passion for problem solving in complex systems
    • Obsess over detail and refinement
    • Provide, accept, and act on feedback constructively
