What We Are Looking For:

PSE is seeking an Electric Utility Engineering Manager to help establish and lead our presence in Michigan. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced electric utility professional who wants to combine technical leadership, people development, and client relationships while helping build and shape a new PSE office. This individual will serve as a technical leader and trusted partner to our utility clients throughout Michigan, while building and developing a local team supported by the broader expertise and resources of PSE. Location: We plan to establish our Michigan office around the right leader and the needs of our clients. Potential locations include Grand Rapids, Traverse City, Lansing or another Michigan community that provides strong access to our clients and future colleagues.


What You Will Be Doing:

  • Embrace, uphold, and live out PSE’s core values around People, Problem-Solving, and Progress.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of engineers, designers, and technicians by providing technical guidance, coaching, performance management, and career development opportunities.
  • Manage team members, project assignments, and client expectations to ensure high-quality, on-time project delivery.
  • Provide technical consultation to electric utilities involving distribution system planning, power system analysis, distribution system design, protection and controls, and grid modernization initiatives.
  • Review and approve engineering studies, designs, calculations, system models, drawings, specifications, and technical reports to ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Support the evaluation and integration of distributed energy resources (DER), battery energy storage systems (BESS), renewable generation, and emerging utility technologies.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable industry codes and standards, including NESC, NEC, IEEE, ANSI, and state and utility-specific requirements.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver integrated solutions across distribution, transmission, substations, renewable energy, and utility infrastructure projects.
  • Oversee project schedules, budgets, resource planning, and technical execution to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with utility clients while serving as a technical resource throughout project execution.
  • Support business development by assisting with proposals, project scoping, and identifying opportunities to expand engineering services.

What You Will Need:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • 6+ years of experience in electric utility engineering, power systems, distribution, transmission, or related engineering disciplines.
  • Previous experience leading engineering teams, supervising staff, or serving in a technical leadership role is preferred but not required.
  • Consulting experience is preferred; utility experience is required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required or ability to obtain licensure.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong technical knowledge of electric utility systems, engineering principles, and industry best practices.
  • Proven leadership, coaching, and employee development skills.
  • Excellent project management and organizational abilities with experience balancing multiple priorities.
  • Strong understanding of project financial management, budgeting, forecasting, and resource planning.
  • Ability to build trusted relationships with clients, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams.

Compensation:

  • Salary Range: $124,743- $166,080 annually.

This salary range reflects the anticipated base salary for six to twenty years of relevant experience. The successful candidate will be placed at a level that is commensurate with the candidate's relevant years of experience, education, and technical expertise.
