What Are Remote Jobs in EdTech?

Educational technology, which is known as EdTech for short, involves developing programs and technology tools that assist teachers in the classroom. Remote EdTech specialists build tech tools for use in a school setting, such as smart whiteboards and projector technology. You can also help teachers implement existing technology in their classroom to achieve specific educational goals. Your duties include communicating with teachers and curriculum designers to assess their needs and develop or suggest solutions. Instead of instructional software, some education technologists work on systems that measure performance or student psychology. This is a wide field, and you can find many different careers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Edtech Professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Edtech Professional, you need expertise in instructional design, educational technology, and digital pedagogy, often supported by a degree in education or instructional technology. Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS) like Canvas or Moodle, and proficiency in tools such as Zoom, Google Workspace, or content creation software, are typically required. Strong communication, self-motivation, and adaptability are crucial soft skills for engaging learners and collaborating virtually. These skills ensure effective online learning experiences, seamless technology integration, and successful remote teamwork.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in remote Edtech roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in remote Edtech roles often encounter challenges such as maintaining effective communication with dispersed teams, adapting to various digital tools, and ensuring student engagement in a virtual environment. Addressing these challenges involves proactively using collaborative platforms, setting clear expectations, and participating in regular virtual meetings. Additionally, continuously updating technical skills and leveraging online resources can help overcome obstacles and ensure successful remote collaboration.

What is a Remote Edtech job?

A Remote Edtech job involves working in the education technology sector from a remote location, rather than a traditional office or school setting. These roles can include positions such as online curriculum developers, virtual instructors, instructional designers, education software engineers, and customer support specialists for Edtech platforms. Professionals in this field use digital tools and platforms to create, deliver, or support educational products and services. Remote Edtech jobs offer flexibility and the opportunity to work with innovative technologies that enhance learning experiences for students and educators around the world.

Job description

ROLE OVERVIEW

The RFP/Proposal Writer plays a key role in securing high-value K-12 school district or Board of Education contracts. You will be responsible for preparing and submitting successful technical bids that satisfy district purchasing requirements, adhere to procurement regulations, and align with budget availability timelines.

The ideal candidate will excel at orchestrating cross-functional teams, translating complex technical concepts into persuasive narratives, and building scalable proposal systems. This is a high-impact, remote-first role requiring a mission-driven mindset to support student well-being through strategic growth.

Position: RFP/Proposal Writer
Location: 100% Remote (US-based)
Base Salary: Up to $100,000

ABOUT SECURLY

Securly is the market leader in AI-powered student wellness and safety solutions, protecting over 20M students across 20,000+ schools worldwide. Our technology has analyzed over 10B activities to help keep students safe, secure, and ready to learn. We operate with the scale of a tech giant and the agility of a startup, combining innovation, data, and compassion to solve real problems.

Our Impact:

  • 2,000+ student lives saved
  • Named to the 2026 GSV 150, honoring the world's top 150 companies driving growth and innovation in digital learning
  • Repeatedly recognized as a Top Place to Work and for EdTech Product of the Year

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Bid Management
Lead the end-to-end proposal development process, including project management, writing, and compliance for RFI, RFQ, and RFP solicitations. Successfully orchestrate multiple time-critical proposal teams through complex academic-year deadlines.

Strategic Opportunity Identification
Proactively search platforms for new solicitations and provide strategic input on bid/no-bid decisions based on competitive intelligence and relationship assessment.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with Solution Engineers, Product Managers, Implementation specialists, and Sales teams to gather technical information and translate complex concepts into value-focused narratives tailored to different audiences (superintendents, IT directors, procurement officers).

System Ownership
Maintain accurate records of all proposal activities, analyze win/loss data, and manage RFP platforms. Develop and maintain a repeatable proposal management system that effectively handles increased volume without creating SME bottlenecks.

Internal Training
Educate internal teams on K-12 purchasing cycles and how districts evaluate technology solutions.

YOUR FIRST YEAR

30 Days: Complete training on Securly's EdTech solutions; assess current proposal workflows and begin managing end-to-end development for initial K-12 proposals.

60 Days: Establish a tracking system for monitoring success rates; begin proactively searching for new solicitations via platforms like RFP SchoolWatch and GovSpend; build relationships with internal technical SMEs.

90 Days: Deliver a foundational content library of high-impact RFP responses developed in collaboration with Product, Engineering, and Implementation teams; demonstrate mastery of K-12 procurement regulations.

6 Months: Implement an automated proposal system; establish collaborative workflows with Sales, Product, and Implementation teams to ensure alignment and reduce SME burden.

12 Months: Own the proposal process; serve as the internal subject matter expert on K-12 procurement; scale the system to support significant market expansion while maintaining high win rates.

Success Metrics:

  • Improved win rates through better positioning, compliance, and relationship-driven opportunity selection
  • Reduced time-to-completion for proposals through effective SME management and content library development
  • Scalable system that can handle 2-3x volume without proportional increase in team size
  • Proposals that demonstrate deep understanding of district needs, not just technical feature lists

WHAT YOU BRING

Proposal Strategy & Management
Track record of achieving competitive win rates through data-driven bid analysis, strategic positioning, and disciplined project management under tight deadlines.

K-12/SLED Procurement Knowledge
Deep understanding of school district purchasing cycles, funding mechanisms (E-Rate, ESSER, Title IV, etc.), and state/local procurement regulations to ensure every proposal is compliant and strategically aligned.

Technical Translation & Communication
Ability to collaborate with technical experts to understand cloud-based EdTech solutions, then translate that information into clear, persuasive narratives appropriate for different audiences. You don't need to be a solution engineer, but you must know what questions to ask and how to position technical capabilities as district value.

SME Orchestration
Proven ability to manage busy technical experts, extract information efficiently, and synthesize inputs from multiple stakeholders into cohesive, compelling proposals without creating bottlenecks.

Content Excellence
Exceptional writing skills with ability to adapt tone, technical depth, and messaging based on audience (technical IT directors vs. non-technical superintendents vs. procurement officers).

Strategic Opportunity Assessment
Ability to critically analyze market trends, competitive landscapes, and solicitation requirements to provide input on bid/no-bid decisions and optimize positioning.

Proposal Technology Proficiency
Experience with or ability to quickly master RFP management tools and build scalable, automated systems for high-volume excellence.

K-12 Funding Knowledge
Understanding of how to identify and map K-12 technology funding sources to EdTech solutions, making safety and wellness tools an essential investment for districts.

WHY JOIN SECURLY

Direct Mission Impact
Your work directly helps protect over 20M students while supporting the digital transformation of K-12 education.

Join a fast-growing company with significant expansion ahead and a clear channel for turning strategic thinking into immediate action.

True department-of-one role where you'll build and own the entire proposal function.
