What is remote ecommerce photo editing?

Remote ecommerce photo editing involves enhancing and retouching product images for online stores from a remote location, rather than working onsite. Editors use specialized software to adjust colors, backgrounds, lighting, and remove imperfections to make products look appealing and professional. This service is essential for ecommerce businesses to attract customers and increase sales by showcasing their products in the best possible light. The work is typically done on a freelance or contract basis, allowing editors to collaborate with clients worldwide.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote ecommerce photo editor?

To succeed as a Remote Ecommerce Photo Editor, you need strong proficiency in digital image editing, a keen eye for detail, and experience with commercial product photography standards. Expertise in Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, and familiarity with ecommerce content management systems are typically required. Excellent time management, communication, and the ability to adapt feedback set outstanding editors apart. These skills ensure high-quality, consistent visuals that enhance product appeal and drive online sales.

What are the typical challenges faced by remote ecommerce photo editors, and how can they overcome them?

Remote ecommerce photo editors often encounter challenges such as maintaining consistency across large batches of product images, meeting tight deadlines, and communicating effectively with teams in different locations or time zones. To overcome these hurdles, it's important to establish clear editing guidelines, use standardized workflows, and leverage collaborative tools for feedback and file sharing. Staying organized and proactive in communication helps ensure high-quality, on-brand images are delivered efficiently, supporting the overall ecommerce team's goals.

About Us:
We are a small close-knit team of highly technical engineers with diverse backgrounds. Our engineering culture values lean development and data-driven practices. Together, we are building a robust, feature-rich, and easy-to-use eCommerce platform that powers online shopping for thousands of dispensaries and brands. We're AI-enabled, not AI-driven. AI tools (Claude, AI-assisted reviews, generated plans) are part of how we work, but the engineering judgement behind every decision is human.
What You Will Do
  • Implement, test and maintain new user-facing functionality on our eCommerce platform
  • Build scalable backend services and APIs that power our web applications
  • Partner with other senior engineers to contribute to high level decisions about the architecture and design.
  • Engage with Product Managers to make Jane's eCommerce storefront offerings sound, robust, and easy to use.
  • Help communicate and implement best practices across the engineering team.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Designers, and other Engineers through design reviews, feature planning, and code reviews.
  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks.

Qualifications
  • 4+ years of professional software engineering experience in a product-centered team.
  • Demonstrates senior-level ownership: independently navigates ambiguity and proactively moves work forward without waiting for direction.
  • Experience building frontend React applications, ideally in eCommerce, marketplaces, or high-traffic consumer web. Hands-on with one or more of: product discovery and search/browse experiences, cart and checkout flows, or performance optimization for conversion-critical pages. You understand the constraints that make eCommerce frontend distinct: SEO best practices for organic discovery at scale, and building embedded or white-label experiences that perform seamlessly across many partner sites and brands.
  • Systems-level problem solver: comfortable navigating ambiguous, high-complexity challenges across distributed systems and infrastructure.
  • Strong Computer Science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, and code design principles.
  • Proficiency in Javascript/Typescript and React, with a demonstrated ability to pick up new languages and adapt to a rapidly evolving stack. Experience with Ruby on Rails is preferred but not required, and server-side JavaScript experience is a plus.
  • Base level familiarity with relational databases.
  • Strong technical communication: expresses ideas clearly through well-crafted code, written documentation, and team communication with both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Collaborative by nature: as eager to mentor and share knowledge as to learn from others, with a genuine passion for craft and how great software gets built
