Job description

TechFlow is seeking a Software Engineer (Java/Web) to support a mission-critical DoD software development and modernization program in Montgomery, AL. This program provides software development and technical support services to sustain, enhance, and optimize a critical customer system through secure, scalable, and maintainable software solutions.
The Software Engineer will support the design, development, testing, and maintenance of modern web-based applications while contributing to ongoing system modernization efforts. Working under the guidance of senior technical leaders, this role will develop application features, implement user experience enhancements, support Agile development practices, and ensure software solutions meet established quality, security, and accessibility standards.
The ideal candidate is a motivated software engineer with experience developing Java-based applications, collaborating in Agile teams, and applying secure coding practices within a DoD environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, enhance, test, and maintain clean, efficient, and secure application code following established coding standards and best practices.
  • Support software modernization efforts by implementing new capabilities, application enhancements, and system improvements.
  • Develop Java-based web applications and services within an Agile software development environment.
  • Participate in mandatory peer code reviews to ensure software quality, security, maintainability, and adherence to coding standards.
  • Implement user experience (UX) enhancements and support low-code/no-code solutions as directed by technical leadership.
  • Develop and maintain automated tests to support software quality objectives, including achieving a minimum of 90% automated test coverage for new code.
  • Identify opportunities for technical debt reduction and support remediation efforts.
  • Ensure applications meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA standards, achieving zero errors through automated and manual accessibility testing.
  • Maintain source code within the Government-owned/BES-managed Git repository using appropriate branching, version control, and Agile development practices.
  • Utilize library and dependency management tools to maintain secure and reliable software components.
  • Support software quality and security processes, including automated scanning, vulnerability remediation, and compliance activities.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers, architects, testers, DevSecOps engineers, and Agile team members to deliver mission-focused software solutions.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Java and web application development.
  • Experience developing software using modern programming practices and secure coding standards.
  • Proficiency with Git-based version control workflows.
  • Experience with automated testing frameworks and software quality practices.
  • Familiarity with DoD cybersecurity requirements, security scanning tools, and Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) requirements.
  • Ability to work effectively in an Agile software development environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional technical teams.
  • Active Secret Security Clearance

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with modern front-end frameworks such as Angular, React, or similar technologies.
