This position reports to the Defense Technical Director and is expected to grow over time, through alignment of the business unit, growth in direct reports, and strategic partnerships. Flexibility, self-directed, team oriented and capability to manage high levels of ambiguity are a must.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND SKILLS: Typical responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Lead a software team in the design, development, implementation, and testing of software solutions related to our Defense projects/programs, ensuring that they meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Directly responsible for architecture and design decisions for software solutions across Defense project teams. This role will serve as the Technical Software Lead.
  • Responsible for developing/implementing process, best practices, and technologies for delivering software solutions across the defense engineering teams and projects.
  • Support business development efforts by providing technical expertise during proposal development and customer meetings.
  • Participate in strategic planning activities to help define the company's technical vision and roadmap.
  • Lead the development and mentoring of technical staff, including identifying training needs, providing guidance and feedback, and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Collaborate with project teams to identify the proper resources for implementing and supporting software solutions across all defense initiatives. Assist in the procurement of the proper resource (matrix, contract, new hire, partners) by being part of the selection/hiring process.
  • Develop and implement software engineering processes, standards, and best practices to ensure technical excellence across all projects.
  • Responsible for leading the identification and development of skills and technologies needed for software delivery practices by team members.
  • Work with both internal and external teams. This role is responsible for being the software liaison with external partners as well as working with internal teams across the organization.
  • Work effectively with remote teams and resources. These can also be internal teams or external partners.
  • Manage technical risks and ensure that appropriate mitigation strategies are in place.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, government regulations, and company policies throughout the software development process.
  • Work across engineering disciplines, ensuring smooth integration of individual components into larger systems.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to understand requirements, provide technical recommendations, and ensure effective solutions.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements, translate them into technical specifications, and create solutions that encompass all technical aspects of the solution.
  • Participate in and ensure the execution of code reviews, design reviews, and product requirement discussions, providing constructive feedback to improve overall product quality.
  • Communicate technical capabilities and present technical solutions to management, external customers, and partners in an effective manner.
  • Maintain a holistic view of the projects and their solutions, ensuring alignment with broader organizational goals, defense industry roadmaps, and latest technologies and practices.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset, comfortable with ambiguity, and excited by new challenges.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
  • Advanced degree preferred
  • Fifteen or more years of industry experience in defense, automotive, or robotics

Pay Range:

$136,500.00 - $241,500.00

The above pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target pay for the position across all U.S. locations. Within this range, individual pay is determined by various factors, including the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate's experience, education and skills, as well as the equity of pay among team members in similar positions.
