Overview

The Manager, Project Engineering serves as the primary point of contact for Industrial Field and Project Engineering functions. This role provides leadership and oversight for day-to-day Project Engineering activities across construction projects, ensuring work is delivered safely, at quality, and to financial targets. The Manager leads and develops a team of Project and Field Engineers, building the capability required to execute their roles independently.

Location and Travel Details: This is a remote role and can be based anywhere in the United States. Must be able to travel up to 60% of the time.

Responsibilities

Project Engineering Oversight

  • Provide Project Engineering oversight across all phases of construction, from preconstruction through closeout.
  • Hold overall accountability for Project Engineering performance and successful delivery across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Lead development of logistics plans and project scheduling.
  • Direct Project Engineering support for takeoff and bid efforts.
  • Participate in contract reviews.
  • Oversee internal engineering processes and ensure consistent application across projects.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of Project and Field Engineers.
  • Own the development of engineering staff, including performance assessment, coaching, and career progression.
  • Partner with field operations managers, supported by the Directors, to select Project and Field Engineers and assemble balanced project teams.
  • Support the internship program as needed.

Project Team Effectiveness

  • Ensure the Project Manager initiates and leads team building during initial project team assembly.
  • Provide ongoing oversight that team building continues across site crews, owners, subcontractors, and corporate departments.
  • Deploy corporate resources and internal support teams at key project milestones.
  • Coordinate with other departments to support successful preconstruction and construction activities.

Client & Business Development

  • Drive client satisfaction, measured through client surveys and direct feedback.
  • Support Business Development by taking a leadership role in the interview stage of pursuits.
  • Represent MasTec Industrial through community involvement and industry activities.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from four-year college or university in Construction Management, Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 10 or more years of responsibility for the total execution of large construction projects is preferred
  • Advanced experience and knowledge of Power Generation and Industrial Mining construction, means and methods, accounting, project administration, and a thorough understanding of industry practice

  • Working knowledge of MIC health and safety programs and project-specific regulatory requirements.
  • Active participation in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors when on site.
  • Consistent personal modeling of safe behavior.

  • Willingness to take ownership when leadership is needed and initiative when opportunity arises, while collaborating effectively with peers and other departments.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret blueprints, technical procedures, contracts, professional journals, and governmental regulations.
  • Applied working knowledge of basic algebra and geometry, including calculation of area, volume, circumference, proportions, percentages, discounts, and interest.
  • Ability to produce reports, business correspondence, and project documentation including budgets and contracts.
  • Ability to present information clearly and respond to questions from project managers, superintendents, clients, and the public.
  • Ability to present to executive leadership, boards, and public groups.
  • Ability to resolve practical problems involving multiple variables in standardized situations.
