What Your Job Will Be Like
We are seeking an professional in algorithm development for remote sensing systems to design and develop software for a high throughput, high volume data processing mission. Our team delivers creative solutions for sophisticated real-time decision support systems. Join our hard-working, multi-disciplinary team and start building the future today!
On any given day, you may be called on to:
  • Be part of software teams that deliver solutions for remote sensing systems, including the capture, processing, exploitation, visualization, and distribution of real-time satellite sensor data.
  • Propose and lead image processing and data-centric research and development projects with a focus on computer vision algorithms for the detection, tracking, and classification of observational targets.
  • Develop and optimize high performance software for real-time, distributed systems.
  • Develop and optimize the concept of operations for remote sensing systems.
  • Develop test and validation strategies for remote sensing systems.
  • Engage with diverse specialists in areas such as data fusion, signal and image processing, analytics, cloud computing, machine learning, modeling and simulation, service architectures, data management and visualization.

Due to the nature of this position onsite work is required. Some travel may be required.
Salary Range
$117,500 - $235,700
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require
  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.ยฟ
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DOE Q-level security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire
The ideal R&D, S&E Computer Science candidate for Sandia National Laboratories will in addition possess the following:
  • Graduate degree in Computer Science or a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation).ยฟ
  • Demonstrated software development skills and familiarity with modern software development practices and tools (e.g., Agile).ยฟ
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams, and a passion to improve and expand technical skills.

Also, for this posting we are seeking individuals with the following experience:
  • Experience with object-oriented software development in C++ or Python
  • Experience with Linux operating environments
  • Experience in delivering code to operational environments
  • Experience in utilizing and exploiting data from remote sensing systems
  • Experience developing AI-based computer vision applications (e.g., image processing, segmentation, detection, classification) to include understanding and use of CNNs, RNNs, and/or Transformers.
  • Experience with data exploitation/mining/fusion algorithms, digital signal processing, or multi-core parallel computing in CPU/GPU/FPGA environments.
  • Expertise with software/pipeline development or optimization in high-throughput data processing environments.
  • Active DOE Q or DOD TS security clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain an SCI.

About Our Team
The Mission Engineering and Geospatial Analytics System Program Office (MEGASPO) supports many DOD and IC customers to design and integrate key national systems that strengthen national security. Working with partners across 6300 and the Sandia, 6341 is responsible for providing assessments of critical needs and deployment of capabilities to close those gaps.
