GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

The Director of Business Development (DBD) is responsible for synthesizing marketing, sales and pursuit strategies across a business area (vs a customer as in the case of an account executive). They both lead other account executives and or marketing specialists with guidance on specific customer and/or product pursuits. The DBD is expected to manage strategic partnerships which either they or the SVP of BD have identified that provide strategic/competitive advantages in our BD pursuits. The director will implement the overarching strategies defined by the SVP of BD in a manner to meet division goals. This individual will evaluate, define and recommend to the SVP of BD shows and show budgets that further their pursuits in respective product areas.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Establishes marketing strategy for a product area (ie. Air Force, Navy, Army, International Customers).
  • Provides direction to Marketing specialist re: show preparations.
  • Develops and supports time phased bookings forecast in support of financial planning for the division for their product area.
  • Identifies, qualifies, and quantifies target opportunities; suggests pursuit strategies; contributes to overall business development strategy.
  • Achieves bookings goals as set forth and established by SVP of BD for their product area.
  • Initiates customer contact and follow-up with targeted agencies and companies.
  • Fosters continuous customer relationships with key industry and customer contacts inclusive of marketing, sales, executive, programmatic, representative and technical disciplines.
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of KUAS capabilities and accurately articulates the value that our capabilities provide.
  • Researches and identifies related markets of interest which are presented to the SVP for review.
  • Responsible for timely and compliant preparation of proposals within the product area in which they have purview.
  • Coordinates with the VP of Programs to ensure a coordinated approach to customer satisfaction is achieved.
  • Responsible for compliance associated with marketing activities.
  • Oversees, tracks, and is responsible for technical data export licensing activities required for business development activities.
  • Develops and is responsible for BD budget for their product areas.
  • Provides weekly/monthly input to status briefings for corporate management review.
  • Assigns resources for trade shows.
  • Conducts all business activities with the highest standards of ethics.
  • Specific knowledge of product area associated with their BD responsibilities (ie Targets or tactical).
  • Maintains a detailed Outlook calendar of travel, meetings and events supporting BD activities.
  • Communicates effectively, both written and verbal.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Contracts Management and Program Management, preferably with experience in both.
  • Time working for Department of Defense in either acquisition or operationally relevant position a plus.
  • Knowledge of major defense or commercial accounts preferred.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • B.S degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or Engineering Management.
  • 15 plus years of product management, engineering and/or business development experience with at least two to three years of managing projects and budgets. Minimum 3 years directly relevant aerial targets/ UAV or major aerial targets/UAV subsystem business development experience.
  • Prior DOD experience required.
  • Demonstrated experience in the area of pioneering and executing win strategies.
  • Demonstrated success and leadership of major campaigns/proposals from inception through delivery.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance is required.

Preferred:

  • Active DOD Security Background Check with the ability to receive up to Top Secret SCI

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Office and/or Manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to stand and sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motion (keyboarding, 10-key, phones).
  • May be required to lift up to 50 pounds in accordance with KUAS General Safety Training guidelines.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Up to 50% Travel both domestic and internationally.
