Position summary

In anticipation of a recompete contract award, Tantus, a Sikich Subsidiary- is looking for a Senior SQL Server Database Administrator.  

What will you do in this role?

  • Install, configure, administer, and maintain SQL Server Standard and Enterprise Edition instances across standalone and clustered architectures in on-premises and Microsoft Azure IaaS environments
  • Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot SQL Server Failover Cluster instances for high availability across Windows and Linux environments
  • Perform SQL Server backup and recovery operations including full, differential, and transaction log backups, point-in-time recovery, and automated backup policy management using SQL Server Native Backup with Azure Blob Storage
  • Administer and maintain SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) including report development, deployment to report server, and maintenance of reports from multiple data sources including Oracle, SQL Server, and flat file formats
  • Develop, maintain, and deploy SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) packages for ETL and data integration operations
  • Administer and maintain MySQL 8.x instances on Ubuntu Linux including replication, encryption, backup, and semi-synchronous replication configuration
  • Monitor and tune database performance including index defragmentation, query optimization, database engine tuning advisor, SQL profiler, DBCC commands, and dynamic management view analysis
  • Administer SQL Server security including login creation, role assignment, user account management, group management, privilege grants, and audit configuration
  • Implement and maintain Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) for SQL Server and MySQL tablespace encryption for data at rest protection
  • Configure and maintain SQL Server Always On availability groups, database mirroring, log shipping, and replication for business continuity
  • Develop and maintain automated job scheduling, alerts, and notifications for system errors, resource constraints, database health events, and task assignment tracking
  • Migrate and configure SQL Server databases and instances from on-premises infrastructure to Azure IaaS platform
  • Support agency data mart operations including nightly data pulls from enterprise systems and integration with application reporting layers
  • Support Power BI Data Gateway administration for on-premises SQL Server and Oracle data access from Power BI reporting
  • Maintain SQL Server instances supporting enterprise applications across a large federal agency application portfolio
  • Author and maintain SQL Server and MySQL SOPs covering installation, configuration, backup and recovery, replication, patching, failover clustering, encryption, and monitoring
  • Apply security patches and vulnerability remediations against agency scan policy templates and ISSO security mandates
  • Support FISMA security assessment and authorization activities as they relate to SQL Server and MySQL database environments
  • Support application developers and subject matter experts in database optimization, schema design, stored procedure development, and integrated systems performance

What do you need to succeed in this role?

  • U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field required
  • Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) or equivalent SQL Server certification required
  • Minimum 5 years of SQL Server database administration experience; 12-plus years preferred
  • Demonstrated experience administering SQL Server 2016, 2019, and 2022 in both standalone and clustered configurations on Windows on-premises and in Microsoft Azure
  • Proficiency in T-SQL including stored procedures, functions, views, triggers, constraints, indexes, joins, unions, and dynamic management views
  • Hands-on experience with SQL Server Failover Clustering, Always On availability groups, database mirroring, log shipping, and replication
  • Experience with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), and SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS)
  • Experience administering MySQL 5.7 and 8.x on Ubuntu Linux including master-slave replication, GTID replication, encrypted backups, and MySQLPump
  • Experience with SQL Server backup and recovery tools including SQL Server Native Backup and Azure Blob Storage integration
  • Experience migrating SQL Server databases from on-premises environments to Azure IaaS
  • Experience with SQL Server security administration including TDE, audit configuration, login management, and role-based access control
  • Proficiency with performance monitoring and tuning tools including SQL Server Profiler, Database Engine Tuning Advisor, DBCC commands, and dynamic management views
  • Familiarity with FISMA security assessment and authorization activities and federal ISSO security requirements

Preferred Certifications & Qualifications

  • Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) certification for Oracle 19c or demonstrated Oracle database administration experience sufficient to provide cross-platform support as needed
  • Experience supporting federal agency database environments with complex integration requirements across multiple enterprise applications including grants management, contracts management, and collaboration platforms
  • Experience administering SQL Server instances supporting SharePoint on-premises environments in a federal agency context
  • Experience with enterprise backup tooling for SQL Server environments including both third-party solutions and SQL Server Native Backup to Azure Blob Storage
  • Experience with Power BI Data Gateway configuration and administration
  • Experience with SSRS report development across multiple heterogeneous data sources including Oracle and SQL Server
  • Familiarity with HHS EPLC framework and federal IT governance processes
  • Experience with Splunk or equivalent log monitoring tools for database security event analysis
  • Experience with PowerShell scripting for SQL Server administrative automation

In compliance with this state’s pay transparency laws, the salary range for this role is $160,000 - $180,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
