Summary:
Senior-level role responsible for guiding and advancing the organization's enterprise data governance program. This role provides strategic and operational leadership to ensure data is trusted, secure, well-defined, and aligned with regulatory and organizational requirements.
Serves as a key liaison between clinical, operational, and technical stakeholders, driving governance initiatives that support patient care, regulatory compliance, research, and data-driven decision-making. This role leads data governance workgroups, mentors team members, and ensures adoption of governance frameworks, tools, and best practices across the hospital.
Responsibilities:
  1. Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the enterprise data governance framework, platforms, policies, standards, and operating procedures to support regulatory reporting, audits, accreditation requirements, and enterprise data strategy.
  2. Ensure data governance initiatives align with organizational priorities, healthcare regulatory requirements, privacy standards, and applicable requirements such as HIPAA and Joint Commission standards.
  3. Establish, maintain, and mature governance models, including data ownership, stewardship structures, accountability frameworks, and decision-making processes.
  4. Provide leadership, direction, prioritization, and mentorship to analysts, developers, engineers, and other contributors supporting data governance initiatives.
  5. Oversee enterprise data quality programs, including defining metrics, thresholds, monitoring processes, and improvement strategies across clinical, financial, and operational domains.
  6. Partner with compliance, legal, security, and operational teams to ensure appropriate handling of protected health information (PHI), mitigate data risks, and improve data integrity, consistency, and usability.
  7. Lead and facilitate enterprise and domain-specific data governance workgroups, including clinical, revenue cycle, and quality groups, to drive decisions on data definitions, standards, and quality improvements.
  8. Serve as a primary point of contact for senior leaders, directors, and cross-functional teams on data governance matters, priorities, and issue resolution.
  9. Drive organizational adoption of governance practices through effective communication, training, stakeholder engagement, and change management strategies.
  10. Define standards and best practices for metadata management, business glossary development, data lineage, data classification, and governance documentation.
  11. Oversee onboarding and governance of critical data assets within catalog tools, ensuring appropriate stewardship, documentation, usability, and ongoing maintenance.
  12. Define, monitor, and report KPIs for data governance effectiveness while leading continuous improvement initiatives to enhance governance processes, workflows, and stakeholder engagement.

Technical Expertise
  1. Advanced knowledge of data governance frameworks, including data quality, metadata management, master/reference data, and stewardship models.
  2. Strong understanding of healthcare data ecosystems, including EHR systems (e.g., Epic), regulatory reporting, and clinical/operational workflows.
  3. Hands-on experience with data governance tools such as Alation, Collibra, Informatica, or Databricks Unity Catalog.
  4. Proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools (e.g., SQL, Power BI, Excel) to assess data quality and governance metrics.
  5. Ability to translate complex technical concepts into actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders.
  6. Demonstrated experience leading data governance initiatives, programs, or teams.
