Remote Data Analysis information

What is remote data analysis?

Remote data analysis refers to the process of examining, interpreting, and drawing insights from data using digital tools, while working from a location outside of a traditional office setting. Professionals in this field utilize statistical software, databases, and visualization tools to analyze large datasets and help organizations make informed decisions. Remote data analysts often collaborate with team members and stakeholders virtually, ensuring that data-driven strategies are implemented effectively. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate findings clearly.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote data analyst?

To thrive as a Remote Data Analyst, you need strong analytical skills, statistical knowledge, and a background in fields like mathematics, statistics, or computer science. Proficiency with data analysis tools such as SQL, Python, R, and visualization platforms like Tableau or Power BI is typically required. Excellent communication, self-motivation, and time management help remote analysts present insights clearly and stay productive without direct supervision. These skills and qualities ensure accurate data-driven decisions and effective remote collaboration with stakeholders.

How do remote data analysts typically collaborate with team members and stakeholders?

Remote data analysts often use a combination of communication and project management tools—such as Slack, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom—to stay connected with colleagues and stakeholders. Regular virtual meetings, shared dashboards, and collaborative platforms enable them to discuss findings, gather requirements, and provide updates on ongoing projects. Clear documentation and proactive communication are essential to ensure alignment, especially when working across different time zones or departments. Building strong relationships with team members virtually can help streamline workflows and facilitate effective decision-making.

Remote Data Analysis involves interpreting data, creating reports, and providing insights using analytical tools, while Remote Data Entry focuses on inputting and managing data accurately. Both roles are performed remotely and require computer skills, but Data Analysis demands analytical expertise and familiarity with data tools, whereas Data Entry emphasizes speed and accuracy in data input tasks.

Can I get a remote job as a remote data analyst?

Remote data analyst positions are widely available and often require skills in data visualization, statistical analysis, and proficiency with tools like Excel, SQL, or Python. Many companies offer remote roles with flexible schedules, and a strong portfolio or certification can improve job prospects.

Is data analysis a good career for remote work?

Data analysis is well-suited for remote work because it primarily involves computer-based tasks such as working with datasets, using tools like Excel, SQL, and Python, and communicating insights through reports. Many companies offer remote data analyst positions, and strong skills in data visualization and self-management are important for success in a remote environment.

Position Title:  Product Owner - Data Analytics

Reports To:      Manager of Product Office

Location:          Hybrid – Onsite Tuesday–Thursday; Remote Monday & Friday

Department/Sub: Tech/OCIO

Employment Type: Full-Time

Starting Salary:  $80,000 (DOE)

What This Role Is…

As a Product Owner – Data Analytics within the CITY HOME Technology Product Office, you will own the vision, roadmap, and backlog for our data and analytics products — including reporting platforms, dashboards, data pipelines, and self-service analytics tools used by associates and business leaders across the organization. This role works closely with Data Engineers, Analysts, Business Stakeholders, and Executive Leadership to translate business questions into well-defined data requirements, prioritize the analytics backlog, and ensure delivery of trusted, actionable insights. You will serve as the primary liaison between business stakeholders and the data engineering team, balancing strategic data initiatives with day-to-day operational reporting needs.

What You’ll Do…

As a Product Owner – Data Analytics your primary responsibilities will be to:

  • Own and prioritize the product backlog for data and analytics initiatives, translating business questions and KPIs into clear, well-defined user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Partner with business stakeholders, executives, and cross-functional teams to gather reporting and analytics requirements, define success metrics, and align data initiatives to business goals.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineers and Analysts to scope dashboards, data models, and pipelines, ensuring data quality, accuracy, and timely delivery of insights.
  • Lead and participate in Agile sprint ceremonies — Sprint Planning, Backlog Refinement, Sprint Review, and Retrospectives — as the voice of the business for data products.

Additional duties and responsibilities as a Product Owner – Data Analytics:

  • Define and maintain the product roadmap for analytics platforms and reporting tools, balancing new capabilities against maintenance and data governance needs.
  • Validate delivered dashboards, reports, and data products against business requirements prior to release; drive user acceptance testing (UAT).
  • Champion data governance, data quality standards, and consistent metric definitions across teams.
  • Present analytics roadmaps, KPIs, and product updates to business stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Identify opportunities to improve decision-making across the business through new or improved data products and self-service analytics.

What We’re Looking For…

Competencies and Job Specific Skills

  • Proven experience as a Product Owner or Business/Data Analyst supporting data, analytics, or BI initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of data analytics concepts, including data warehousing, ETL/ELT pipelines, and BI/reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Looker).
  • Ability to translate ambiguous business questions into clear data requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
  • Experience prioritizing and managing a product backlog using Agile/Scrum methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills — able to work with both technical data teams and non-technical business leaders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with comfort interpreting data to inform product decisions.
  • Familiarity with data governance, data quality, and metric standardization practices.
  • Experience working with SQL or querying data directly is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Jira and Confluence for backlog management and documentation

What’s Required…

Education & Work Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Data Analytics, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Experience: 3–5 years of professional experience as a Product Owner, Business Analyst, or Data Analyst, with a track record of delivering data/analytics products.

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Full-time, Monday–Friday, standard business hours.
  • Hybrid schedule: onsite Tuesday through Thursday; remote Monday and Friday.
  • Must be available during Eastern Time business hours.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged sitting / desk-based work, both onsite and remote.

Technology Requirements

  • Jira and Confluence
  • BI/reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, or Looker)
  • Microsoft Office / Google Suite
  • Microsoft Teams

Certifications / Licenses

  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or equivalent Agile certification is a plus.
  • Florida Drivers License
