Job description

About the Role

We are looking for a Sr. Manager, Copywriting to lead the copywriting discipline within Roku's Brand & Creative Studio. This role sits at the intersection of brand, creative, marketing, and advertising - responsible not only for crafting and evolving Roku's brand voice, but for driving idea-led, strategically grounded creative work across the business.

This is a hands-on creative leader who understands agency-style creative development - from brief intake and insight generation through concepting, iteration, and execution. You'll partner closely with art directors, designers, and creative directors to develop multiple on-brief concepts that ladder up to a clear creative north star, ensuring all work is both strategically sound and creatively compelling and present work to our internal marketing partners.

The ideal candidate is both a strong conceptual thinker and a team leader - someone who can zoom out to define the big idea and zoom in to craft the words that bring it to life. They are comfortable navigating ambiguity, aligning stakeholders, and championing great creative work through collaboration, clarity, and craft.

The estimated annual base salary for this position is between $135,000 and $150,000 with additional equity. Compensation packages are based on factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, certifications, and specific geographic location. This role is eligible for health insurance, equity awards, life insurance, disability benefits, parental leave, wellness benefits, and paid time off.

This position will be based in either Austin, TX or Santa Monica, CA and will be in office Monday - Thursday with the option to work from home on Friday.

What you'll be Doing
  • Manage and mentor a team of copywriters and strategists, fostering a culture of curiosity, craft excellence, collaboration, and accountability.
  • Lead concept development and oversight across campaigns and initiatives - partnering with art directors and designers to generate multiple, distinct, on-brief creative territories rooted in strategy and insight.
  • Translate briefs into big ideas - ensuring all creative work ladders up to a clear creative north star and delivers against business and brand objectives.
  • Champion a strong creative process - bringing structure, clarity, and rigor to briefing, concepting, feedback, and execution in a way that reflects best-in-class agency workflows.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with creative directors, designers, marketers, product teams, and stakeholders to develop AI-driven creative workflows and automation to enhance speed without compromising quality.
  • Write and oversee copy development across channels - including campaign concepts, video scripts, brand messaging, product marketing, lifecycle, and retail experiences.
  • Develop messaging frameworks and narratives that support full-funnel storytelling and ensure consistency across touchpoints.
  • Elevate creative quality by providing clear, actionable feedback and direction.
  • Guide work through review and approval processes, effectively presenting and defending creative rationale to senior stakeholders.
  • Act as a brand steward, ensuring consistency in voice, tone, and messaging across all outputs.
We're excited if you have
  • 10+ years of experience in creative copywriting, with significant time in agency or agency-like environments
  • Proven experience developing creative strategy and concept-driven campaigns, with a portfolio that demonstrates multiple creative directions and strategic thinking, not just execution
  • Experience collaborating closely with art directors and designers to produce integrated creative work
  • Strong understanding of creative briefs, positioning, and insight-driven ideation
  • Experience leading or mentoring writers and contributing to a high-performing creative team culture
  • Ability to present and sell ideas clearly and persuasively to cross-functional partners and senior stakeholders
  • Well-rounded writing background including video, digital, product marketing, and integrated campaigns
  • Strong instincts for brand voice and storytelling, with the ability to flex across tones and audiences
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, iterative environment with shifting priorities
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred (fluent in speaking, reading, and writing)
