Job Description:
Job Summary
Responsible for performing accurate and compliant billing and coding for multispecialty services. Ensures adherence to regulatory guidelines and maintains required credentials through ongoing education. Facilitates effective communication with diverse stakeholders and provides cross-coverage as needed. Supports revenue maximization and institutional goals by reviewing clinical documentation and identifying discrepancies for process improvement. Maintains high standards of quality, efficiency, and customer service in a remote work environment.
Essential Functions
• Reviews and abstracts medical record documentation for all patient types and services.
• Assigns accurate CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM, and ICD-10-PCS codes and modifiers based on documentation.
• Ensures adherence to all regulatory coding and billing guidelines and organizational policies.
• Utilizes applicable software systems to complete coding, abstracting, and billing transactions.
• Reviews and corrects coding edits and resolves potential billing errors.
• Queries providers to clarify documentation and ensure coding accuracy.
• Maintains current knowledge of coding principles, guidelines, and compliance requirements.
• Participates in quality improvement, audits, and professional development activities.
• Collaborates and communicates effectively with clinical staff, management, and team members.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Education Requirement
Bachelor's degree in health information management, healthcare administration, or a related field
Experience Requirement
0-2 years of experience in medical coding, health records management, or a relevant area
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
All experience must be paid and in the same related field.
Part-time and PRN experience will be prorated based on hours worked per week.
Volunteer work and internships for academic credit are not counted.
Certifications & Licensures
Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Professional Coder - Apprentice (CPC-A), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Coding Associate (CCA)
