Job description

Introduction
The Department of Corrections is focused on public safety through the custody and supervision of those in our care. The Department of Corrections is currently recruiting to fill a Corrections Food Service Leader 3 position. This position is based out of Sanger B. Powers Correctional Center (Oneida, Outagamie County).
Position Summary
This position is responsible for the food service operation at the Sanger Powers Correctional Center. This position will: direct the production of meals, train and supervise resident food service workers, plan meals, procure supplies, care for and clean kitchen equipment, maintain food inventory, and enforce proper sanitation standards.
Salary Information
This position is in pay schedule and range 03-13 with a starting pay of $23.94/hour . Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A probationary period is required.

Job Details
This position is not eligible for remote work and will work on site.
This position has physical requirements related to performing the job duties that involve being able to stand and move freely. This role will prepare food and inspect sanitation, which involves manipulating fine objects, operating appliances, and lifting freely up to 50 lbs. to perform necessary tasks, and may need to occasionally climb stairs. A full list is included with the position description.
Food service workers will work in a commercial-style kitchen in close proximity to other staff and resident workers. This position must also comply with the facility's health policies, including those regarding Tuberculosis Screening and Hepatitis Vaccination.
This position is normally scheduled for 40 hours per week and usually works hours near meal times. This position may include some weekend hours. Potential schedules can be discussed at time of interview or offer.
This employee in this position will need to be able to work up to 14 hours per day and more than 40 hours per week on any shift based on daily operational needs. This may include weekends and holidays.
This position is FLSA Non-Exempt.
This position travels occasionally to cover other sites, pick up plants or produce, and for training, meetings, conferences, or similar events. This position may transport residents to outside food training events.
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.
The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.
The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.

Qualifications
Minimally qualified applicants will have:
  • Experience preparing and directing other workers in the preparation of cooking and baking of foods, (such as: meats, vegetables, breads, desserts, bag lunches and special occasion meals).
  • Experience training or teaching others skills and tasks such as: food preparation, cooking, baking, meat, cutting and processing.
  • Experience maintaining cleanliness, ensuring food safety, and monitoring compliance with sanitation standards
  • Experience planning menus (including tasks such as: meeting nutritional requirements, using current food inventory to avoid waste, etc.).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must obtain ServSafe Food Manager Certification (or equivalent) within six months of hire and maintain certification throughout employment.
Applicants must possess a valid driver's license and meet State of Wisconsin fleet requirements . Employees will be required to maintain a valid driver's license and eligibility to drive a fleet vehicle during employment.
