Job Description
The Mechanical Design Engineer will lead the creation and refinement of detailed mechanical designs, drawings, and assemblies for complex systems. This role focuses on developing high-quality 2D models and manufacturing documentation using AutoCAD, supporting prototype development, and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to ensure designs are functional, manufacturable, and compliant with relevant standards and safety requirements.
Responsibilities Include
- Create accurate 2D drawings and models using AutoCAD for mechanical components, assemblies, and layouts.
- Develop detailed mechanical designs, including assemblies and facility layouts such as conveyor systems and related equipment.
- Prepare complete manufacturing drawings, including application of GD&T and creation of bills of materials (BOMs).
- Revise and maintain existing designs based on engineering changes, feedback from manufacturing, and field performance.
- Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional teams to ensure designs meet functional, performance, and manufacturability requirements.
- Support prototype development activities and participate in design validation and testing efforts.
- Ensure all designs comply with applicable standards, specifications, and safety requirements.
- Maintain organized design files, documentation, and revision histories within appropriate systems.
- Support manufacturing or production environments by addressing design-related issues and implementing improvements.
- Contribute engineering expertise in mechanical design, facilities design/layout, and conveyor systems to ongoing and new projects.
Skills & Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical design.
- Proficiency in AuoCAD/Inventor
- Strong understanding of GD&T.
- Experience with conveyor systems and facility engineering.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Nice to Have
- Experience with GD&T beyond basic application, including interpretation and optimization for manufacturing.
- Familiarity with ERP and/or PDM systems for managing parts, BOMs, and engineering change processes.
- Experience with facilities design/layout, including conveyor systems and related mechanical infrastructure.
- Broad understanding of mechanical engineering principles applied to facility and equipment design.
- Strong collaboration skills in a supportive, team-oriented environment.
- Motivation to pursue professional growth and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Port Clinton, OH.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.
