The Position

Shermco Systems Integration is seeking a Controls Engineer, which will be responsible for design, development, and implementation of control systems for various applications, ensuring efficient and safe operation by using automation, programming, critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. This position is remote, but will involve travel 50-75% of the time.

Shermco Industries is seeking a Controls Engineer III.
Responsibilities

Roles and Responsibilities:

Safety-Focused:

    Establish/Maintain behaviors that demonstrate Safety as a Personal Core Value.

System Design & Development:

  • Design, develop, and implement control systems for various applications, including Network Architecture, Cause and Effect Diagram, Control Philosophy for the production of a complete automation and process control system.
  • Utilize knowledge of control theory, automation, and programming to create efficient and reliable systems.

Programming & Implementation:

  • Program and configure Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Human Machine Interfaces (HMI), and other control devices.
  • Develop and implement control algorithms and software.
  • Utilize graphical programming languages like Ladder Logic and FBD (Function Block Diagram).

Testing & Troubleshooting:

  • Test and validate control systems to ensure they meet performance requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose control system issues.
  • Implement solutions to improve system performance and reliability.

Startup & Commissioning:

  • Install, configure, and test software systems on-site, ensuring they function according to specifications and customer needs, often collaborating with other specialists and clients.

Performance Optimization:

  • Evaluate system performance and identifies areas for improvement.
  • Implement solutions to increase production efficiency and reduce downtime.

Collaboration & Communication:

  • Collaborate with other engineers, technicians, project managers, and stakeholders to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Communicate technical information clearly and concisely.

Safety:

  • Ensure that control systems are designed and implemented in a safe manner.
  • May be responsible for implementing safety protocols and procedures.
Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering/Computer Science or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 4 years' experience in control systems and startup/commissioning.
  • Must have a strong understanding of control theory, automation, and programming, with the ability to identify, analyze, and solve complex technical problems while paying close attention to detail, ensuring accuracy.
  • Must have experience with low voltage controls.
  • Must be able to clearly and effectively communicate in English via verbal and written methods and be comfortable and effective doing so directly to customers and co-workers.
  • Ability to work safely, and an eagerness to contribute to a safety-focused team.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills, Proficiency in using computer-aided design (CAD) software and other relevant tools, and Experience with pipeline and/or oil and gas processing is considered a plus.
  • Controls Platforms and equipment familiarity of any of the following is required:
    • Allen Bradley ControlLogix / CompactLogix / PLC5 / SLC500 / FactoryTalk / RSView (PLC/HMI)
    • GE RX3i / RX7i / 90-30 / 90-70 / QuickPanel / iFIX / Cimplicity / Proficy (PLC/HMI)
    • Siemens S7-300 / S7-400 / S5 / TI / WinCC / WinCCFlex / TIA (PLC/HMI)
    • Schneider (SquareD) Modicon Quantum / ClearSCADA / (PLC/HMI)
    • DeltaV (DCS)
    • Wonderware InTouch / ArchestrA / System Platform / Win911 (HMI)
    • OPC Systems SCADA (HMI)
  • Industry experience preferred:
    • Semiconductor, Oil and Gas, Utilities, Agriculture, Metals, Mining, Paper, Data Centers, Health Care , Food and Beverage
  • Must be flexible and willing to work out-of-town with regular overnight travel

Other Requirements:

  • Strong preference for individuals who are able and willing to demonstrate their personal commitment to Safety.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, stand for extended periods, drive regularly, with or without reasonable accommodations
  • Should be able to pass a fit for duty physical exam when required
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and periodic, unannounced random drug tests.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check.

  • Must have a valid driver's license and currently have (and be able to maintain) a good driving record.
