Job description

The Puyenpa family of companies that are comprised of multiple SBA Certified Native American Tribal 8(a) and multi-certified organizations focused on delivering Information Technology, Management Consulting, and General Construction solutions to the Federal Government along with the Commercial Sector.
We are actively seeking a Licensed Attorney to support our Department of Education program in reviewing and adjudicating claims submitted under an agency-managed program. This role involves evaluating claim submissions, applying government-established criteria, and preparing clear, well-supported recommendations. This is a full-time remote position that may require personnel to be onsite in Washington D.C. with a 24 hour notice. A Public Trust clearance will be required.
Responsibilities
  • Review and adjudicate claims submitted under an agency-managed Department of Education program.
  • Analyze case files, supporting documentation, and relevant evidence to determine eligibility and compliance with federal regulations and program requirements.
  • Apply statutory, regulatory, and policy guidance to support legally sound decision-making.
  • Draft written determinations, summaries, and legal findings in accordance with program standards.
  • Conduct legal research related to federal education laws, administrative procedures, and applicable regulations.
  • Identify inconsistencies, deficiencies, or discrepancies in submitted claims and request additional documentation or clarification as needed.
  • Provide legal recommendations and subject-matter guidance to program leadership and adjudication staff.
  • Ensure all actions comply with Department of Education policies, federal guidelines, and quality-assurance standards.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and case records in accordance with established processes.
  • Participate in program meetings, training sessions, and briefings to support continuous program improvement.
Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in a U.S. state or territory; in good standing.
  • Experience with administrative law, federal programs, or regulatory compliance preferred.
  • Strong analytical, writing, and legal research skills.
  • Ability to interpret federal regulations, statutes, and policy documents.
  • Prior experience with claims adjudication, government programs, or legal review processes a plus.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage a high caseload efficiently.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain any required background investigation or suitability determination.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience working with federal agencies, particularly the Department of Education.
  • Knowledge of administrative adjudication, appeals, or claims-processing environments.
