What is remote contingent workforce management?

Remote Contingent Workforce Management refers to the oversight, coordination, and administration of temporary, contract, or freelance workers who perform their roles offsite, often from various locations. This process involves sourcing, onboarding, managing, and paying contingent workers who are not full-time employees and do not work in a traditional office setting. Effective remote contingent workforce management ensures compliance, productivity, and communication among distributed teams while controlling labor costs. It often leverages technology platforms to track performance, manage contracts, and facilitate collaboration. This approach is increasingly popular as organizations seek flexible staffing solutions and access to a wider talent pool.

What are common challenges faced in remote contingent workforce management, and how can they be addressed?

Remote contingent workforce management often involves overcoming challenges such as ensuring consistent communication, maintaining compliance with varying labor laws, and integrating contingent workers into existing teams. To address these issues, many organizations implement centralized digital platforms for onboarding, project tracking, and communication. Regular check-ins, clear documentation of processes, and strong collaboration with HR and legal teams help ensure both productivity and compliance. Building a sense of inclusion among remote contingent workers is also crucial, which can be fostered through virtual team meetings and recognition programs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote contingent workforce manager, and why are they important?

To excel as a Remote Contingent Workforce Manager, you typically need expertise in workforce planning, talent acquisition, contract negotiation, and a background in human resources or business administration. Familiarity with vendor management systems (VMS), applicant tracking systems (ATS), and relevant certifications like SIA's Certified Contingent Workforce Professional (CCWP) are highly valuable. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills set top performers apart in managing distributed teams and stakeholders. These skills ensure effective oversight, compliance, and optimization of a flexible workforce in a remote environment.

Job description

Role Summary:

Our Digital team is seeking an HCM Platform Specialist to serve as a subject matter expert (SME) across leading HCM platforms (e.g., Workday, UKG), supporting the end-to-end success of customer integrations with Guardian's API ecosystem.

This role combines deep HCM configuration expertise (plan design, eligibility rules, and business processes) with a strong understanding of carrier integrations and API-driven connectivity. The Specialist will play a critical role in ensuring integrations are designed, implemented, and operationally successful - from pre-sales through steady-state delivery.

This is an exciting time to join Guardian as we accelerate our digital capabilities across product, experience, benefits administration, and HR technology integrations. This role plays a key part in supporting the connection between product, operations, and technology, helping deliver reliable and scalable HCM solutions.

You Will:

Pre-Sales Enablement & Client Advisory

  • Partner with Sales and Solution teams to consult with large, complex customers during pre-sales.
  • Set clear expectations on integration capabilities, dependencies, and implementation timelines.
  • Advise on HCM configuration best practices (plan design, eligibility, business rules) to enable scalable and successful integrations.

Implementation & Onboarding Support

  • Guide customers through the setup of integrations with Guardian, including reviewing HCM tenant configurations and business processes.
  • Identify risks early and recommend adjustments to plan builds, workflows, or data structures to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Act as a bridge between customer technical teams and Guardian's internal teams to ensure alignment and smooth execution.

Integration Execution & Operational Support

  • Troubleshoot and resolve integration challenges across both customer HCM environments and Guardian systems.
  • Provide hands-on consultative support during pilot programs, initial implementations, and ongoing operations.
  • Ensure a consistent, repeatable onboarding experience that reduces friction and accelerates time-to-value.

Continuous Improvement & Product Feedback

  • Leverage frontline experience to provide actionable feedback to Product and API teams.
  • Help evolve Guardian's API capabilities, onboarding processes, and partner integrations to improve scalability and ease of doing business.
  • Identify patterns across client implementations to drive standardization and best practices

You Have:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • 5-7+ years of experience in HCM platforms, HR technology, or benefits administration systems
  • Experience with Workday, UKG (Pro, Ready, or Workforce Management), or similar HCM systems, including configuration and business processes
  • Strong expertise in benefits configuration, including plan design, eligibility rules, and life event setup
  • Experience supporting carrier integrations and API-driven connectivity, including understanding of data flows and implementation dependencies
  • Strong customer-facing skills with the ability to provide consultative guidance and influence integration and configuration decisions
  • Proven analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to perform root cause analysis across systems, data, and workflows
  • Experience reviewing and advising on business requirements, HCM configurations, and integration design approaches
  • Working knowledge of HCM processes (e.g., employee lifecycle, benefits administration, payroll/time concepts)
  • Familiarity with integration concepts, including APIs, EDI, and file-based data exchanges
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams, including Sales, Product, Technology, and Operations
  • Customer-focused mindset with strong attention to detail, quality, and operational success
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and drive outcomes in a fast-paced, complex environment

Location: Boston, NYC, Holmdel, NJ, Bethlehem, PA - Will also consider remote.

Base Pay Range: $82,770 - $118,000K

Salary Range:

$82,770.00 - $135,975.00

The salary range reflected above is a good faith estimate of base pay for the primary location of the position. The salary for this position ultimately will be determined based on the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate.
