Join Courier Newsroom - an organization that drives journalism and empowers communities.

At Courier Newsroom, we’re reinventing local media to inform and empower communities through impactful reporting. Our mission is rooted in civic engagement and equity—and we’re growing fast.

We're looking for an Operations Manager to optimize operational processes, drive efficiency, and support execution of our strategic goals. This role suits a strong project manager and problem-solver experienced in managing operations in a remote, fast-paced environment.

Reporting to the SVP of Operations and joining a two-person Operations team, you'll lead key initiatives and streamline workflows to help COURIER stay agile and scalable as we grow.

COURIER Newsroom is committed to building an inclusive workplace that values diverse perspectives and lived experiences. We strongly encourage women, people of color, individuals with disabilities, LGBTQ+ candidates, and those from all backgrounds to apply. As an equal opportunity employer, we strive to break down barriers and ensure every team member feels seen, heard, and supported.

WHY THIS ROLE

  • Real ownership, real impact. You won't just support operations — you'll help build and implement the policies, tools, and systems that shape how a 100-person remote team works every day.
  • Mission-driven work. COURIER is growing, and this role sits at the center of that growth, giving you visibility into how a scaling media organization operates at every level.
  • A true thought partner role. You'll work directly with the SVP of Operations, senior leadership, and cross-functional teams — not just executing tasks, but shaping how we solve problems and building working relationships across the company.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Operations Management & Coordination

  • Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring company-wide policies, SOPs, and workflows are effectively implemented, maintained, and improved.
  • Manage the contract process, including vendor agreements and compliance documentation, in partnership with finance.
  • Maintain and improve internal communication channels for clear, consistent information flow across teams.
  • May manage interns as needed.

Process & Workflow Optimization

  • Identify inefficiencies and recommend scalable process improvements; support departments in building KPI tracking and performance metrics.
  • Implement and optimize workflow automation tools to improve cross-departmental efficiency.

Risk Management & Digital Security

  • Serve as a thought partner on company-level risk management, flagging gaps and helping develop solutions with the SVP of Operations.
  • Partner with the tech team on digital security tools and protocols, including compliance monitoring and initiatives like phishing simulations.
  • Contribute to physical and digital security protocols and incident response processes.

Cross-Team Collaboration & Support

  • Lead and manage Knowledge Core, ensuring teams have centralized, up-to-date resources.
  • Drive company-wide adoption of tools and software..
  • Support cross-functional projects and organizational initiatives with operational expertise.

The ideal candidate will have some of the following:

The ideal candidate is a proactive, independent, and detail-oriented problem solver who thrives in a fast-moving remote environment.

Key qualifications include:

  • 3-5+ years of experience in operations, project management, or a related field (experience in media is a plus).
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace, and project management tools (e.g., Asana, Trello, Monday.com).
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interface effectively across teams, from senior leadership and VPs to answering day-to-day questions from employees.
  • Proactive problem-solving mindset with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic setting.
  • Independent project manager, who can initiate and drive projects while keeping management informed.
  • Adaptability and initiative, with a continuous improvement mindset for optimizing processes.
  • Experience with digital security tools and protocols (e.g., MFA, MDM, VPN) is a plus.
  • Passion for COURIER's mission and values, with a commitment to operational excellence.

Courier Newsroom offers the following benefits:

  • Unlimited Paid Time Off (PTO), 11 paid holidays a year
  • An Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Full suite of health benefits
  • $500 home office reimbursement
  • 401k
  • Flexible working arrangements
