Job Summary:
The Community Outreach Coordinator for the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) will be responsible for developing and implementing community outreach strategies to promote environmental awareness, education, and community science initiatives. This role will focus on fostering relationships with diverse communities, enhancing public understanding of environmental issues, and attending in-person events to facilitate community participation in science and conservation efforts.
This position is available for remote work on a full-time basis within Arizona (including virtual office arrangements).
The State of Arizona strives for a work culture that affords employees flexibility, autonomy, and trust. Across our many agencies, boards, and commissions, many State employees participate in the State's Remote Work Program and are able to work remotely in their homes, in offices, and in hoteling spaces. All work, including remote work, should be performed within Arizona unless an exception is properly authorized in advance.
Job Duties:
  • Community Events: The Community Outreach Coordinator will manage successful implementation of activities related to environmental approaches, working with Community Liaisons throughout Arizona. Develop relationships that lead to collaborations that will serve Arizonans. This role will manage outreach supplies using appropriate technology platforms to track use of items related to outreach and events.
  • Community Education: Assist in developing educational materials and programs for schools, community centers, and public events to raise awareness about environmental issues. Conduct presentations, workshops, and hands-on activities to engage diverse audiences in environmental learning and stewardship. Where applicable work with trans-boundary partners to advance collaboration on improving education and approaches with transboundary partners.
  • CORE3 Community of Practice: This role will coordinate CORE3 meetings, assist on agendas for said meetings and collaborate with internal partners to produce best internal relationships. Participate in production of internal materials to educate staff members on what is taking place within the Community and Engagement Section. Develop internal relationships that lead to better outcomes for ADEQ.
  • Community Engagement: Work in conjunction with the department's Community Engagement Professional to develop and execute comprehensive community engagement plans that align with the department's goals and objectives. Establish and maintain partnerships with local organizations, schools, community groups, internal staff, and other stakeholders. Organize and participate in community events, workshops, and public meetings to engage the public and gather feedback on environmental initiatives.
  • Community Science: Work with the department's Community Science and Education Coordinator to design and manage community science programs that encourage public participation in data collection, environmental monitoring, and conservation projects. Collaborate with scientists and researchers to integrate community-collected data into broader environmental research and policy development.
  • Other duties as assigned as related to the position (typically 5% - 10%)
