The Bancorp's Small Business Lending team helps businesses across the country access SBA and other financing solutions that support growth. As part of this team, you'll contribute to delivering tailored financial solutions, supporting the lending process from origination through funding and helping drive successful outcomes for business owners and the communities they serve.

The VP SBL Loan Closing Officer III role manages and performs advanced due diligence required to collect, review, analyze, and approve documentation necessary to facilitate SBA loan closings. Independently manages complex loan transactions while ensuring compliance with SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Bank credit approval, legal requirements, and internal policies. Serves as the primary point of contact for borrowers, attorneys, underwriters, CDCs, and third-party vendors throughout the closing process. Protects the Bank's interests and SBA guaranty by identifying and resolving documentation compliance, and operational risks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collects, reviews, audits, and analyzes all documentation required loan closing, including but not limited to real estate appraisals, environmental reports, business valuations, franchise documentation, title commitments, surveys, flood determinations, insurance, UCC searches, lien filings, organizational documents, and other due diligence items required by the Bank and SBA.
  • Reviews SBA's Terms & Conditions and credit memorandums to ensure all closing conditions are satisfied. Coordinates and obtains SBA modification or amendments when necessary, in accordance with Bank and SBA program requirements.
  • Performs detailed reviews to ensure compliance with SBA SOP requirements, Bank policy, legal documentation requirements, and loan approval conditions while protecting the SBA guaranty.
  • Identifies documentation deficiencies, compliance concerns, collateral issues, and exceptions requiring resolution prior to loan closing. Coordinates corrective action with internal departments and external parties.
  • Prepares, reviews, and validates all loan closing documents to ensure accuracy, completeness, enforceability, and compliance with SBA regulations, Bank policy, and legal requirements.
  • Manages complex SBA loan transactions.
  • Coordinates all aspects of the closing process with borrowers, referral sources, attorneys, title companies, CDCs, SBA representatives, insurance agents, vendors, and internal departments to ensure timely loan closing.
  • Prepares, reviews, and processes loan funding requests while ensuring accurate calculation and collection of SBA guaranty fees, closing costs, and other loan related charges.
  • Maintains complete electronic loan files in accordance with Bank record retention requirements, SBA audit standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitors and/or assists with obtaining post-closing exceptions and tickler items to ensure timely completion of post-closing conditions.
  • Reviews information for completeness, accuracy, and consistency while identifying discrepancies, documentation deficiencies, or operational risks requiring escalation.
  • Exercises independent judgment to resolve documentation issues and recommend solutions while ensuring compliance with SBA regulations and Bank policies.
  • Maintains accurate loan status reports, workflow tracking, and pipeline management information for management reporting purposes.
  • Serves as subject matter expert for SBA loan closing requirements by guidance, technical assistance, and mentoring to less experienced closing staff.
  • Collaborates with the team to identify operational improvements, enhance efficiencies, improve customer experience, and strengthen quality control while maintaining compliance standards.
  • Develops and maintains strong working relationships with borrowers, attorneys, title companies, CDCs, and internal personnel.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualification Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 7 years loan documentation or SBA experience
  • Extensive knowledge of SBA loan programs including 7(a), SBA Express, and 504.
  • Thorough understanding of SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), commercial loan documentation, and closing requirements.
  • Advanced knowledge of SBA eligibility, loan documentation, and loan closing requirements preferred.
  • Experience with E-Tran preferred.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, problem solving, and decision-making skills preferred.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage high volume pipeline preferred.
  • Exceptional customer service skills preferred.

Travel Expectations

  • Occasional travel required, at least once a year.

  • Effectively manages and maintains a pipeline of 12 - 14 loans.
  • Accurately and efficiently closes SBA loans while meeting established turnaround times.
  • Maintains compliance with SBA requirements, Bank policies, and documentation standards.
  • Effectively communicates proactively, and delivers a positive customer experience.
