What are some common challenges faced in a remote client implementation role, and how can they be addressed?

Remote client implementation professionals often encounter challenges such as coordinating across different time zones, ensuring clear communication with clients, and managing multiple projects simultaneously. To address these, it’s important to establish structured communication protocols, use project management tools to track progress, and set clear expectations with clients from the outset. Building strong relationships with both internal teams and clients through regular virtual check-ins can also help prevent misunderstandings and keep projects on schedule.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote client implementation specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Client Implementation Specialist, you need strong project management abilities, attention to detail, and a background in business, IT, or a related field. Familiarity with CRM software, project tracking tools, and onboarding platforms is typically required, and certifications in project management (like PMP) can be valuable. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills help you build client trust and navigate challenges remotely. These skills ensure smooth onboarding experiences, client satisfaction, and successful deployment of products or services in a virtual environment.

Job description

Implementation Specialist
About gWorks:
gWorks builds software that helps small local governments work better. Our clients are public servants, city clerks, utility billing staff, public works teams, and county administrators. These are the folks who keep their communities running smoothly. Their work is essential, but often constrained by outdated tools.

We fix that. Our cloud-based platform replaces legacy systems with simple, integrated software built specifically for small governments. We serve thousands of communities nationwide, streamlining operations, improving service delivery, and making day-to-day work more manageable.
We’re consolidating several acquired products into one platform and guiding our clients through this transition. It’s complex, important work that requires a team that can execute at a high level to help drive that transformation.
The Role:

As an Implementation Specialist, you’ll be the primary guide for clients adopting gWorks software. From project kickoff to go-live and seamless handoff to Client Success, you’ll combine technical expertise with strong client relationship skills to ensure every onboarding experience is smooth, impactful, and sets clients up for long-term success.

This is a great role for someone who thrives in a client-facing environment, has strong organizational and technical skills, and is passionate about helping others unlock value from technology.

Key Responsibilities:
Lead Onboarding Projects
Guide clients through adoption of gWorks software modules — including Utility Billing, Accounting, General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Bank Reconciliation, Payroll, Mapping, and Citizen Engagement.
Be the Main Point of Contact
Act as the trusted partner for clients during onboarding, providing clarity, continuity, and expertise from kickoff through handoff.
Configure amp; Optimize
Configure software to align with gWorks’ best practices and the client’s policies, ensuring accurate setup and smooth workflows.
Coach for Success
Provide hands-on training and coaching to help clients adopt product features, maximize utilization, and see value quickly.
Track amp; Analyze
Monitor onboarding project progress, gather client feedback, and analyze data to measure success, identify risks, and improve processes.
Collaborate Cross-Functionally
Partner with Product, Client Success, and Support teams to share insights, resolve issues, and contribute to ongoing software and process improvements.
Document Everything
Maintain clear and accurate documentation throughout onboarding to ensure transparency and alignment across teams.

What You'll Bring:
  • 4+ years of experience in client onboarding, implementation, or software adoption
  • Experience working with SaaS platforms; municipal or GovTech background a strong plus
  • Ability to configure and troubleshoot software solutions, particularly in accounting, payroll, or government workflows
  • Excellent communication, coaching, and organizational skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive, analytical mindset
  • A track record of balancing responsibility, authority, and accountability
  • Self-starter mentality with strong ownership and follow-through
  • Collaborative spirit and a passion for helping clients succeed

What Success Looks Like:

  • Efficient onboarding processes that reduce client ramp-up time
  • High client satisfaction scores and smooth handoffs to Client Success
  • Strong early adoption of product features and workflows
  • Accurate software configuration aligned to client needs
  • Cross-team visibility and communication around client progress
  • Client feedback that drives tangible improvements in onboarding and product design

Where You’ll Work:
  • Omaha-based? You'll follow our hybrid model: work remotely with in-office collaboration on Tuesdays and Thursdays
  • Remote? You’ll be fully supported to work from anywhere in the U.S. We prioritize connected, accountable teams — no matter where you're located
Compensation amp; Benefits:
  • Base Salary Range: $68,000 - $80,000 annually
  • Full medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Flexible PTO and paid holidays
  • A collaborative team culture that values autonomy, growth, and execution
Equal Opportunity Employer:
gWorks is an equal opportunity employer. We value diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. All qualified applicants will receive consideration without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or protected veteran status.
