Job description
Paralegal - Licensing & Regulatory (Healthcare) | Fully Remote (ET Preferred)
At Groups, we are redefining access to high-quality treatment for substance use disorders, and our ability to operate across multiple states depends on strong, precise regulatory execution. We are looking for a detail-oriented Paralegal - Licensing & Regulatory who thrives in a fast-paced, highly regulated healthcare environment and wants to play a critical role in keeping our operations compliant, licensed, and growing.
In this Paralegal role, you will own the lifecycle of licensing and regulatory processes across multiple states, partnering closely with Legal, Compliance, Operations, and Executive Leadership. If you enjoy managing complex requirements, staying ahead of regulatory changes, and bringing structure to ambiguity, this is an opportunity to make a real impact in a mission-driven organization.
ResponsibilitiesWhat You'll Do Own end-to-end licensing for substance use disorder treatment facilities across multiple states. Prepare, submit, track, and maintain applications, renewals, and supporting documentation. Manage licensing calendars, deadlines, and compliance tracking with precision. Serve as a key liaison with state and federal agencies to resolve issues and move applications forward. Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Quality, Legal, HR, and Finance to gather and validate required information. Support accreditations and registrations (DEA, CMS, CLIA, and others). Maintain organized, audit-ready records for all licenses, permits, and regulatory documentation. Monitor and summarize regulatory changes and proactively flag risks or impacts.
Expanded Legal & Compliance Exposure Assist with healthcare regulatory matters (HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, Stark, Anti-Kickback, EKRA, telehealth requirements). Support contract drafting and review (NDAs, vendor agreements, BAAs, employment agreements). Conduct legal and regulatory research. Assist with subpoenas, audits, and litigation-related documentation.
QualificationsWhat You Bring 2-3+ years of experience in a paralegal, licensing, or regulatory role. Experience in healthcare or another highly regulated industry (behavioral health strongly preferred). Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and jurisdictions simultaneously. Exceptional attention to detail and documentation accuracy. Clear, professional communication skills for agency and cross-functional collaboration. Ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements and translate them into actionable steps.
Preferred Qualifications Paralegal certificate or degree in Legal Studies, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
Bachelor's degree preferred, in Paralegal studies, Legal studies, Healthcare Administration or Regulatory affairs. Experience with state licensing boards, DEA registrations, or controlled substance regulations. Prior experience in healthcare, especially behavioral health, strongly preferred.
Work Environment Fully remote (Eastern Time Zone strongly preferred for team alignment). Must have reliable high-speed internet (minimum 50 Mbps download / 10 Mbps upload).
Why Join Groups? Mission-driven work that directly supports life-saving treatment access. High visibility and collaboration with executive leadership. Opportunity to build and streamline multi-state regulatory processes. A growing organization where your work directly enables expansion and outcomes.
Groups is committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
Please note: This role is not available to residents of AK, AR, CA, HI, ID, MD, NE, SD, UT, or WY.
