Position Summary

The Major Projects sourcing organization is seeking aSenior Sourcing Specialist to support sourcing, contracting, and supplier management activities for Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contracts and major equipment contracts for solar, battery energy storage projects and gas new build projects. This role will execute sourcing strategies, support competitive bidding, expert negotiations, and help drive value through category analysis, contract management, risk awareness, and cross-functional partnership.

This role is intended for a sourcing professional who can manage increasingly complex work with support and guidance from their manager. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong business acumen, experience with competitive bidding and evaluation, analytical skills for evaluating proposals, experience in negotiating and closing deals, and proven experience in facilitating work and collaboration in cross functional teams.

Responsibilities
  • Support the development and execution of sourcing strategies for EPC contracts that align with project requirements and business unit priorities.

  • Lead competitive bidding events, supplier evaluations, contract development, and negotiations to achieve favorable commercial outcomes.

  • Review contract terms, redlines, and execution documents to help ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely completion.

  • Perform market research, spend analysis, and benchmarking to identify savings opportunities, sourcing options, and potential risks.

  • Partner with legal, tax, cybersecurity, finance, project management, and operations teams to support sourcing decisions and governance requirements.

  • Coordinate project documentation, trackers, exhibits, purchase orders, and supplier deliverables to support milestone-driven execution.

  • Communicate risks, commercial considerations, and sourcing recommendations clearly to business partners and supply chain leadership.

  • Contribute to process improvements, knowledge sharing, and development of sourcing best practices.

Required/Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree + 5 years of related work experience OR

  • Associate's degree + 7 years of related work experience OR

  • HS/GED + 9 years of related work experience

Desired Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience leading sourcing, contracting, or procurement activities for services and equipment in a project-driven environment.

  • Demonstrated negotiation and contract management skills, including familiarity with terms and conditions, redlines, and commercial issue resolution.

  • Strong analytical skills, including market research, spend analysis, cost evaluation, and data-driven decision making.

  • Ability to identify cost savings and cost avoidance opportunities and communicate recommendations effectively.

  • Experience coordinating project schedules, trackers, exhibits, and cross-functional deliverables.

  • Working knowledge of procurement operations, including purchase orders, invoice resolution, payment processes, and contract administration.

  • Ability to work effectively with legal, tax, cybersecurity, finance, and operational stakeholders.

  • Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.

Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate Degree

  • C.P.M. (Certified Purchasing Manager), CPSM (Certified Professional in Supply Management) certification, or CSCP (Certified Supply Chain Professional)

  • Basic understanding of operations of solar and battery storage facilities (including current market challenges)

  • Ability to lead strategic sourcing initiatives for labor

  • Cost and financial analysis skills

  • Excellent negotiating skills

  • Previous sourcing & contracting experience

  • Strong planning/organizational skills

  • Advanced presentation skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Experience with e-sourcing tools (PowerAdvocate) and ERP systems (CAS, Maximo)

Working Conditions
  • Hybrid Mobility Classification - Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy facility.
