Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Claims & Recovery Analyst to support mortgage servicing operations by managing and maximizing recoveries on defaulted mortgage loans. This role is responsible for reviewing loan files, preparing and auditing mortgage insurance, investor, guarantor, and agency claims, resolving deficiencies and discrepancies, and ensuring claims are submitted accurately and within required deadlines. The ideal candidate has strong mortgage servicing and claims experience, excellent analytical skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while managing a high-volume pipeline.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, submit, monitor, and reconcile mortgage insurance, investor, guaranty, agency, supplemental, and appealed claims.
  • Calculate claim proceeds, recoverable expenses, advances, losses, curtailments, and reimbursements.
  • Audit loan documentation, servicing history, foreclosure expenses, legal fees, property preservation costs, escrow activity, and other recoverable expenses.
  • Review and audit vendor-prepared claims for accuracy, completeness, and guideline compliance.
  • Research and resolve claim denials, shortages, curtailments, discrepancies, and exceptions.
  • Prepare appeals, supplemental claims, reconsideration requests, and supporting documentation.
  • Monitor claim pipelines, aging, deadlines, and outstanding requirements.
  • Reconcile claim payments against expected recoveries and investigate variances.
  • Track vendor performance, quality, turnaround times, and service-level expectations.
  • Identify process improvements and opportunities to reduce claim cycle times and increase recoveries.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation within servicing systems.
  • Prepare reports on recovery trends, claim aging, vendor performance, denials, appeals, and recovery opportunities.
  • Support audits, investor reviews, regulatory examinations, and quality assurance activities.
  • Collaborate with Default, Foreclosure, Bankruptcy, Loss Mitigation, REO, Accounting, Investor Reporting, and other servicing teams.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 3+ years of mortgage servicing experience, preferably in claims, default servicing, foreclosure, bankruptcy, REO, loss mitigation, or investor reporting.
  • 2+ years of direct mortgage insurance, investor, guarantor, or agency claims experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of FHA, VA, USDA, FNMA, FHLMC, and private mortgage insurance claim processes.
  • Experience with claim preparation, audits, appeals, curtailments, reimbursements, and loss analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of mortgage servicing guidelines and investor requirements.
  • Strong analytical, reconciliation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and a large claim inventory.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, lookups, filtering, pivot tables, and data analysis.
  • Experience with mortgage servicing systems such as FICS Mortgage Servicer, MSP, Black Knight, Sagent, or similar platforms is preferred.
