Remote City Manager information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote City Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote City Manager, you need strong leadership, urban planning knowledge, and experience in project and team management, often supported by a degree in public administration or a related field. Familiarity with municipal management software, data analysis tools, and communication platforms is typically required. Exceptional organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills help you effectively coordinate with stakeholders and manage city operations remotely. These skills ensure efficient city governance, foster community engagement, and enable strategic decision-making from a distance.

How does a Remote City Manager typically collaborate with local teams and stakeholders while working remotely?

As a Remote City Manager, effective collaboration with local teams and stakeholders is achieved primarily through regular virtual meetings, clear communication channels, and digital project management tools. You will often coordinate with on-the-ground staff, municipal officials, and community partners to ensure city projects and initiatives are progressing smoothly. Building strong relationships remotely requires proactivity, responsiveness, and the ability to adapt communication styles to bridge any distance gaps. It's common to use video conferencing, instant messaging, and shared documentation platforms to stay aligned and address local challenges promptly.

What are Remote City Managers?

Remote City Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing the operations, administration, and strategic planning of a city or municipality, but they perform their duties remotely rather than working on-site. They coordinate with local government officials, manage budgets, implement policies, and ensure the efficient delivery of public services using digital communication tools. This role requires strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills, as well as the ability to adapt to virtual management practices.

We nurture an environment that attracts and develops talent from all backgrounds and experiences, and empower our associates to do great work by creating a culture of belonging that values diverse perspectives, fosters collaboration and encourages innovative ideas - and are routinely recognized as one of the best companies to work for.

What You'll do:

  • Own partnership-driven membership growth targets for the NY market (Manhattan + Hamptons).

  • Identify, negotiate, and close high-impact partnerships- structuring recurring access, priority inventory and bulk purchase opportunities.

  • Leveraging the global reach, resources and brand of Velocity Black with granular local expertise and up to the minute knowledge of the best NYC has to offer in order to develop the local member community.

  • Responsible for hiring, training, managing and nurturing talent in your city, with a focus on membership community growth, as well as fine dining and local event specialists.

  • Managing the P&L for your city, ensuring it is utilized with the highest ROI with regard to maximizing the relevant KPIs.

  • Lead all NYC member events and curated experiences, ensuring each initiative drives measurable engagement, conversion, and brand positioning.

  • You will work closely with our Membership, CRM, and Operations teams to ensure frictionless integration of city-level and corporate-level operations.

  • Our cultural pillars of Adaptability, Initiative, Yes First, Resilience and Ownership should be conspicuous in everything your team does.

  • You will need to be extremely organized, and able to move seamlessly from assisting a team member with a challenging customer situation, to assessing priorities and progress from strategic altitude.

BasicQualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or Equivalent Certification

  • At least 5 years experience in the hospitality industry in New York City

  • At least 1 year of experience in event planning

Preferred Qualifications:
