Job description

Glacial Ridge Health System is hiring a full-time coding Coding Specialist - Hospital Inpatient to apply the appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes to patient health information for data retrieval, analysis, and claims processing. Remote eligible after on-site training in Glenwood.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Completes analysis and applies codes for the following:
    • Hospital Inpatient
      • ED that transition to Inpatient
      • Observation that transition to Inpatient
    • Swing Bed
    • Transitional Care
    • Other areas as assigned.
  • Abstracts pertinent information from patient records.
  • Assign ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT-4 codes as appropriate.
  • Queries physicians and other providers when code assignments are not straightforward or documentation in the record is inadequate, ambiguous, or unclear for coding purposes.
  • Keeps abreast of coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting requirements.
  • Abides by the Standards of Ethical Coding as set forth by the American Health Information Management Association and adheres to official coding guidelines.
  • Submits appropriate information to insurance companies for admission notification.
  • Completes medical record review of Inpatient charts as required.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of successful completion of a coding certificate program with AHIMA or AAPC approval status.
  • RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CIC certification required within six months of hire.
  • Coding certification preferred from the American Health Information Management Association.
  • Experience as a coder or strong training background in coding and reimbursement preferred.
