Job description

About HousingWire

HousingWire is a data, media and intelligence company built for housing industry leaders. Our mission is to help housing industry professionals make better decisions, faster.

We equip decision-makers across real estate, mortgage, homebuilding and fintech through authoritative journalism, proprietary data and industry-leading events. Our culture values curiosity, ownership and meaningful impact.
About the role

We're looking for a Social Media Lead to own and elevate our social presence across platforms.

This is not an execution-only role. You will set strategy, shape how our brand shows up in-market and translate complex housing market insights into clear, engaging social content that drives reach, engagement and business impact.

You should be equally comfortable building a social strategy, creating short-form video, covering a live event and turning a headline into a high-performing post, often in the same day.

This role requires someone who can step in, take ownership and move quickly. We are not looking for someone to manage a queue. We are looking for someone to build and run the system.

What you'll do

  • Own social media strategy across key platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, X, etc.)
  • Translate headlines, reporting and data into compelling, platform-native content
  • Create and execute short-form video (talking head, event capture, quick-turn insights), with a strong focus on Instagram
  • Lead real-time coverage for events, announcements and market-moving moments
  • Develop content frameworks and repeatable formats that drive engagement and growth
  • Engage directly with our audience, including industry professionals and executives
  • Identify trends, opportunities and platform shifts - and act on them quickly
  • Partner with editorial, marketing and product teams to align messaging and priorities
  • Analyze performance and continuously optimize for reach, engagement and conversion

What you bring

  • 3+ years of experience in social media strategy and execution
  • Proven ability to build and grow social presence for a brand, media company or industry platform
  • Strong understanding of how content performs across platforms, especially LinkedIn and Instagram
  • Experience creating short-form video and on-camera content (or directing it)
  • Ability to translate complex or technical topics into clear, engaging content
  • Strong writing and editing skills with a sharp sense of voice and tone
  • Experience covering live events or real-time moments on social
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-output environment

Preferred candidates will have

  • Familiarity with the housing, real estate, mortgage or fintech industries
  • Experience working with policy, regulatory or data-driven content
  • Experience partnering closely with editorial or newsroom teams
  • Experience owning or leading social strategy for a brand or media company
  • A strong point of view on how to grow and differentiate social presence in a crowded market
  • Experience building content systems (not just posting content)
  • Confidence operating in a visible, fast-moving environment with executive stakeholders

How you work

  • You take ownership and move quickly - you don't wait to be told what to do
  • You think strategically but execute consistently
  • You bring ideas, not just output
  • You understand how to balance speed with accuracy and brand standards
  • You engage thoughtfully and professionally with an industry audience
  • You're comfortable operating in a high-visibility role

Why this role matters

Social is a key part of how we grow our audience, extend our reporting and engage with the housing industry in real time. This role will define how we show up and how we turn insight into reach, engagement and impact.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Position level: Lead individual contributor.
  • Salary range: $70,000-$80,000 base, depending on experience.
  • Bonus: Eligible for performance-based bonus.
  • 401(k) with employer match.
  • Comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision and ancillary coverage options.
  • Unlimited PTO plus Paid Parental Leave.
  • Hybrid/remote work options, depending on location and business needs.
