Job description

Vision for the Role:
The SoCal Development Officer is responsible for building and growing a portfolio of major donors, whose generosity fuels the mission and ministry of Hume Christian Camps. Centered primarily in Southern California—including the greater Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego area etc. —this role will also cultivate donors beyond this region as relationships develop. This position will play a key role in Hume’s Major Gift Ramp Up, engaging new donors and ministry partners through awareness luncheons, galas, and special events. In addition, the SoCal Development Officer will help advance our perpetual campaigns and capital projects at each of Hume’s campuses. The ideal candidate will be a relationship-driven, highly organized professional with a creative mind, a heart for ministry, and an ability to make asks for large gifts.

The Role: 

  • Secure major gifts of $10,000 and above, with an annual personal fundraising goal of $1,000,000. 
  • Manage and grow a portfolio of approximately 250 major donor prospects: identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward. 
  • Develop individualized cultivation and ask strategies. 
  • Play an active role in Hume’s Major Gift Ramp Up, including awareness luncheons and galas, and support other regional events such as the Hume Experience dinners. 
  • Actively support perpetual campaigns and campus-specific capital projects by connecting donors with ministry-wide priorities, including the Hume Fund, camperships, and special initiatives. 
  • Partner with the Executive Director, other Development Officers, Senior Director of Development, and volunteer campaign leaders (cabinets in each campaign) in donor cultivation and solicitation efforts. 
  • Collaborate closely with Development teammates and other ministry representatives to maximize donor engagement. 
  • Ensure timely and accurate donor recordkeeping, actions, and reports in Virtuous. 
  • Maintain regular contact with donors through in-person meetings, calls, and written communications. 
  • Provide monthly contact and activity reports to the Senior Director of Development. 
  • Assist in preparing annual outcome reports and campaign updates for donors and leadership. 
  • Manage a primary territory in Southern California while being responsive to major donor opportunities in other areas. 
  • Participate in all stages of the major gift cycle: prospecting, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. 
  • Approach donor engagement with empathy, integrity, and authenticity, always representing Hume Christian Camps’ mission and values. 
  • Collaborate with development colleagues to coordinate donor strategies and share best practices. 
  • Support the vision of Hume Christian Camps by securing gifts that impact camperships, operations, campus enhancements, and long-term ministry growth.

Physical Requirements:  

  • Ability to travel frequently, including overnight and multi-day trips. 
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods during travel and events. 
  • Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to X lbs. 
  • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods. 
  • Ability to participate in meetings, presentations, and events (with or without reasonable accommodation). 
  • Ability to maintain stamina during long or irregular work hours, including evenings or weekends. 
     

Salary:  $100,000 Annually
