Job description

Remote Position | $180,000+ Benefits | Senior Leadership / Entrepreneurial Opportunity

A boutique claims TPA is seeking a senior professional lines claims leader to oversee and strengthen a professional liability claims operation.

This is a high-impact role for an experienced claims professional who wants real authority, direct access to ownership, flexibility, and the opportunity to help build and grow an enterprise. For the right candidate, there may also be an opportunity to participate in equity ownership and long-term growth.

The position may be structured as Senior Claims Director, Head of Professional Lines Claims, or Chief Claims Officer, depending on the candidate’s experience and fit.

About the Role

The successful candidate will lead professional lines claims operations involving complex claims, including lawyers professional liability, accountants professional liability, insurance agents and brokers E&O, miscellaneous professional liability, management liability, D&O, E&O, EPL, fiduciary liability, and related professional malpractice exposures.

This is not a routine claims-handling role. We are looking for a senior operator who can provide technical claim judgment, impose structure, improve processes, oversee a small boutique claims team, manage defense counsel, strengthen reporting, and ensure claim files are documented, evaluated, and managed at a high level.

The role is remote, with occasional travel as needed for meetings, audits, client relationships, mediations, or other business needs.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Professional Lines Claims Director / Head of Claims will be responsible for:

  • Leading professional lines claims operations;
  • Managing complex professional liability, E&O, D&O, management liability, and related claims;
  • Providing day-to-day oversight to a small claims team, likely two to three professionals;
  • Improving role clarity, accountability, workflow, and file discipline within a boutique claims environment;
  • Implementing and enforcing claim-handling procedures, documentation standards, reserve protocols, and reporting requirements;
  • Reviewing and improving claim-file quality, audit readiness, and compliance with client expectations;
  • Overseeing reserve analysis, liability evaluation, damages analysis, settlement strategy, and plans of action;
  • Managing defense counsel, including selection, assignment, evaluation, reporting expectations, budgets, and performance;
  • Recommending staffing changes, role changes, procedure changes, and operational improvements;
  • Working directly with ownership on strategy, client relationships, program performance, and long-term claims infrastructure;
  • Helping build and grow the claims platform, including potential new programs, client relationships, and business opportunities;
  • Providing leadership in a high-responsibility environment where judgment, organization, follow-through, and operational discipline are essential.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Significant experience handling and/or managing complex professional lines claims;
  • Strong background in D&O, E&O, lawyers professional liability, accountants professional liability, insurance agents/brokers E&O, management liability, EPL, fiduciary liability, or related professional malpractice claims;
  • Experience managing litigated claims, defense counsel, reserves, exposure evaluations, settlement strategy, and reporting;
  • Ability to bring structure and discipline to a small claims operation, not simply handle files;
  • Strong understanding of claims-made policies, coverage issues, professional liability exposures, and litigation management;
  • Experience with audits, claim-file documentation, reporting protocols, and quality-control processes;
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and interest in helping build a growing claims enterprise;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong organizational judgment and the ability to bring structure to a fast-moving claims environment;
  • A practical, solutions-oriented mindset.

A J.D. is preferred but not required. Claims leadership experience, carrier-side professional lines experience, TPA experience, MGA/program experience, or senior claims consulting experience will be strongly considered.

Why This Role

This opportunity is ideal for a senior claims professional who is ready for more authority, more flexibility, and a more entrepreneurial leadership role.

The right person will have the opportunity to:

  • Work remotely;
  • Earn senior-level compensation;
  • Report directly to ownership;
  • Help shape and build the claims operation;
  • Have meaningful authority to improve processes, procedures, and staffing structure;
  • Lead a small, specialized boutique claims team rather than a large corporate department;
  • Implement meaningful operational improvements;
  • Manage and improve defense counsel relationships;
  • Recommend staffing and structural changes;
  • Help develop new programs, clients, and business opportunities;
  • Potentially participate in equity ownership and long-term enterprise growth;
  • Build a stronger, more disciplined professional lines claims platform;
  • Make an immediate and visible impact.

Compensation

Compensation begins at $180,000 plus benefits, with final compensation dependent on experience, structure, and fit.

For the right candidate, the company is open to discussing long-term incentive opportunities, including potential equity participation tied to leadership role, contribution, and long-term fit.

We are open to discussing full-time, interim-to-permanent, or senior consulting arrangements for the right candidate.

To Apply

Qualified candidates should submit a resume and a brief statement describing their professional lines claims experience, leadership background, and interest in a senior claims leadership and entrepreneurial growth role.
