Job description

McGuireWoods is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Director of Lateral Integration to join the firm in our Los Angeles (Century City) office. The Director leads the strategic onboarding and integration of newly hired partners, primarily lateral partners—across McGuireWoods. This role ensures partners are positioned for early and sustained success by accelerating productivity, supporting client transitions, building strong internal relationships, and fully integrating partners into the firm’s culture, systems, and business development platform.

This position plays a critical role in advancing the firm’s growth strategy by translating lateral partner hiring into long term revenue growth, engagement, and cross practice collaboration. The Director works closely with Firm Leadership, Department Chairs, Practice Group Leaders, the Lateral Partner Integration Committee (LPIC), Lateral Partner Recruiting, Business Development, Practice Management, and key business services teams to deliver a cohesive, high impact integration experience.

McGuireWoods, one of the world’s leading law firms, has provided legal solutions to corporate, individual and nonprofit clients since 1834. Along with excellent benefits, McGuireWoods offers most employees a hybrid remote option allowing flexibility and work-life balance. Our Applicant Disclosures describe your rights. • Partner Integration Strategy
    • Design, implement, and manage firmwide partner onboarding and integration frameworks aligned with McGuireWoods’ strategic priorities.
    • Collaborate with hiring sponsor(s), business development, and practice management to develop individualized integration plans tailored to each partner’s practice, clients, and growth objectives.
    • Conduct 30 , 90 , 180 , and 365 day touchpoints with key stakeholders to monitor and provide feedback on each lateral partner’s progression.
    • Serve as the primary integration point of contact for new partners throughout their onboarding lifecycle.
    • Align integration activities with department and practice group goals, firm strategy, and revenue initiatives.
  • Integration Execution & Stakeholder Coordination
    • Coordinate cross functional onboarding efforts with Business Development, Practice Management, Marketing, Finance, IT, HR, Conflicts/New Business, and Professional Development.
    • Support Lateral Partner Integration Committee (LPIC) initiatives and meetings.
    • Facilitate targeted partner introductions, internal networking, and cross practice collaboration.
    • Support client and matter transitions, including client notifications, relationship mapping, and contact and file transfers.
    • Ensure timely and accurate completion of all pre arrival and post arrival onboarding requirements.
  • Partner Support & Relationship Management
    • Build trusted, confidential relationships with newly hired partners.
    • Guide partners in navigating firm culture, governance, systems, and expectations.
    • Coach partners on leveraging the firm’s platform, resources, and relationships to grow their practices.
    • Identify integration challenges early and proactively coordinate solutions.
  • Performance Tracking & Retention
    • Establish and monitor integration success metrics, including partner engagement, pipeline development, and early revenue indicators.
    • Conduct regular integration check ins with partners and relevant firm leadership.
    • Surface integration risks, retention concerns, and growth opportunities.
    • Lead structured integration transition or close out discussions at key milestones (e.g., one year mark).
  • Process Improvement & Best Practices
    • Develop and maintain integration toolkits, playbooks, templates, and tracking dashboards.
    • Continuously refine onboarding and integration processes based on outcomes, feedback, and firm needs.
    • Support firmwide growth initiatives by ensuring a high quality, partner focused integration experience.

  • Demonstrated experience in partner integration, lateral hiring support, practice management, or business development.
  • Strong understanding of law firm operations and the professional services business model.
  • 7–10+ years of experience in law firm administration, professional services, or a comparable environment.
  • Exceptional project management, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with senior level partners and firm leadership with discretion and confidence.
  • Ability to manage multiple partner integrations simultaneously in a fast paced environment.
  • High level of professionalism, sound judgment, and commitment to confidentiality.
  • Willingness and desire to work with innovative technology platforms - our employees also have access to Harvey, a legal-specific AI tool that reduces time spent on routine tasks, allowing you to focus on more meaningful, high-impact work.
