Job description

Introduction
The Department of Corrections is focused on public safety through the custody and supervision of those in our care. Corrections employees have the opportunity to positively impact the lives of others through careers in a variety of fields. The Department of Corrections , is currently accepting applications for two Corrections Food Service Leader 3 positions at Dodge Correctional Institution, located in Waupun, Wisconsin.
Position Summary
This position is responsible for the food service operation at the assigned correctional facility. This position will direct the production of meals, and train and supervise resident food service workers (persons in our care). This position plans meals, procures supplies, and will care for and clean kitchen equipment. This position maintains food inventory and ensures proper sanitation standards.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Food service workers will work in a commercial-style kitchen in close proximity to other staff and resident workers. This position will frequently lift and carry objects of up to 50 lbs. and need to be able to sit and stand and may climb ladders or stairs.
Salary Information
This position is in pay schedule and range 03-13 with a starting pay of $23.94/hour . Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A probationary period is required.

Candidates with no prior permanent employment with the State of Wisconsin in the past 5 years may be eligible to accept a sign-on bonus of $3,000 when hired at eligible locations. The sign-on bonus will be paid in two installments: $1500 on the first paycheck and $1500 with the paycheck for the pay period in which the employee attains permanent status (usually 1 year). (UW System employment isn't disqualifying.)
Job Details
This position is not eligible for remote work and will work on site.
Anticipated schedule will be day-time hours Monday - Friday with occasional weekends, evenings, and holidays. Specifics can be discussed at time of interview.
Must have the ability to work up to 14 hours per day and more than 40 hours per week on any shift based on daily operational needs, this may include weekends and holidays.
This position is FLSA Non-Exempt.
This position is not anticipated to travel on a regular basis, but most DOC positions occasionally travel for training, meetings, conferences, or similar events.
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.
The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.
The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.
Qualifications
Minimally qualified applicants will have:
  • Experience preparing and directing other workers in the preparation of cooking and baking of foods, (such as: meats, vegetables, breads, desserts, bag lunches and special occasion meals).
  • Experience training or teaching others skills and tasks such as: food preparation, cooking, baking, meat, cutting and processing
  • Experience maintaining cleanliness, ensuring food safety, and monitoring compliance with sanitation standards
