What is a remote BI developer?

Remote BI (Business Intelligence) Developers are professionals who design, develop, and maintain business intelligence solutions like dashboards, reports, and data models while working from a remote location. They use tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or SQL to analyze data and help organizations make informed decisions. Remote BI Developers collaborate with stakeholders virtually to understand requirements and deliver actionable insights, ensuring that data is accurate, accessible, and secure.

What does a remote BI developer do?

As a remote BI developer, you work from home or otherwise remotely to design and program software that supports a company's business intelligence needs. To accomplish this, you may use SQL to store and organize data, determine which types of analytics to use with your software, and ensure your software can create each type of report your client asks for. Remote BI developers frequently create complex SQL queries that pull data from multiple sources, translate user requirements into programming objectives, and coordinate with database and infrastructure teams. You may also help create tools to store data, conduct testing, update existing software, and help assess future business intelligence needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote BI developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote BI Developer, you need strong analytical skills, experience with data modeling, and proficiency in SQL, typically supported by a degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field. Familiarity with BI tools like Power BI, Tableau, or Qlik, as well as knowledge of ETL processes and data warehousing, is commonly required. Excellent problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and self-motivation are essential soft skills for collaborating remotely and translating business needs into technical solutions. These skills ensure effective data-driven decision-making and seamless integration of BI solutions in a remote work environment.

How does a remote BI developer typically collaborate with data teams and stakeholders while working offsite?

As a Remote BI Developer, collaboration is often achieved through a mix of virtual meetings, project management platforms, and shared documentation tools. You’ll frequently interact with data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to gather requirements, clarify data sources, and ensure that dashboards and reports meet business needs. Regular check-ins and clear communication are essential to stay aligned on project goals, address data discrepancies, and deliver timely solutions. Adapting to various collaboration tools and maintaining proactive communication helps mitigate the challenges of remote work and ensures strong team integration.

Lead AI Engineer (Business Intelligence & Reporting)

AI, Business Intelligence & Analytics

Overview

We are seeking a Lead Agentic AI Engineer to help drive the next generation of AI-enabled analytics, reporting, and business intelligence solutions.

This role combines AI engineering, data analytics, and business intelligence into a highly visible position focused on delivering actionable insights and measurable business outcomes. The ideal candidate brings deep experience working with large datasets, designing executive-level dashboards, and leveraging AI technologies to improve reporting, analytics, and operational decision-making.

This is not a traditional heads-down development role. We are looking for someone who can partner directly with Product Owners, Business Analysts, and stakeholders to identify opportunities, define metrics, build solutions, and communicate insights across the organization.

As a newly created position, this role offers significant opportunity to influence architecture, establish best practices, and help shape future AI and analytics initiatives.

What You'll Do

  • Design, develop, and implement AI-enabled analytics and reporting solutions.
  • Build and maintain business intelligence dashboards, scorecards, KPIs, and executive reporting.
  • Partner with Product Owners, Business Analysts, and stakeholders to define reporting requirements and performance metrics.
  • Analyze large and complex datasets to identify trends, opportunities, and business insights.
  • Develop Python-based solutions that support AI-driven automation, analytics, and reporting workflows.
  • Design and implement data integration pipelines that consolidate information from multiple systems and APIs.
  • Support AI initiatives involving machine learning, large language models (LLMs), and emerging agentic AI capabilities.
  • Measure adoption, business outcomes, operational efficiencies, and product performance through meaningful reporting frameworks.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams on cloud-based solutions and platform integrations.
  • Evaluate new tools, technologies, and approaches while helping establish long-term AI and analytics strategies.
  • Present findings, recommendations, and insights to both technical and business audiences.

Required Qualifications

Experience

  • 11+ years of experience in Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, Data Science, Analytics Engineering, or related disciplines.
  • 3+ years of hands-on AI, Machine Learning, Generative AI, or advanced analytics experience.
  • 2-3+ years of recent hands-on Python development experience
  • 3+ years of Java development experience.
  • Experience working across the full analytics lifecycle, from data acquisition through reporting and stakeholder consumption.

Business Intelligence & Analytics

  • Strong experience designing and developing enterprise reporting solutions.
  • Advanced dashboard development experience using Tableau or similar BI tools.
  • Experience creating executive reporting, operational metrics, KPIs, scorecards, and performance dashboards.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling, analytics, and visualization best practices.
  • Experience working with large, complex datasets and translating data into actionable business insights.
  • Product analytics and performance reporting experience preferred.

AI & Development

  • Experience building solutions utilizing AI, Machine Learning, Generative AI, or related technologies.
  • Understanding of Agentic AI concepts, frameworks, or use cases preferred.
  • Strong Python development skills for data processing, automation, analytics, and AI solutions.
  • Experience integrating applications and data sources using APIs and modern development practices.
  • Experience supporting deployments, testing, troubleshooting, and production support activities.

Cloud & Platforms

  • Experience working within AWS environments.
  • Understanding of cloud-native services, architectures, and migrations.
  • Experience with AWS-based data, analytics, or AI services preferred.
  • FEPOC experience strongly preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Healthcare industry experience.
  • Experience with LangChain, LangGraph, SageMaker, TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar AI frameworks.
  • Experience with product analytics tools.
  • Experience supporting AI governance, responsible AI practices, and model performance measurement.
  • Experience implementing AI-powered reporting, predictive analytics, or intelligent business insights.
  • Experience working in Agile delivery environments.

What Makes Someone Successful In This Role

The successful candidate will:

  • Think like a business analyst and an engineer.
  • Understand how data should be translated into meaningful business decisions.
  • Be comfortable working directly with stakeholders to define requirements and success metrics.
  • Bring ideas, curiosity, and a willingness to research emerging technologies.
  • Balance technical development work with business-facing analytics and reporting responsibilities.
  • Be excited to help build a new capability rather than simply maintain existing systems.
