Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMH-NP)

Department: Clinical Services | FLSA Status: Exempt | Reports To: Director of Clinical Operations

Part-Time | Telehealth / Remote


Position Summary

We are seeking a compassionate and highly skilled Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMH-NP) to join our growing tele-health behavioral health team. In this fully remote role, the PMH-NP will provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, medication management, and ongoing care to individuals experiencing a range of mental health conditions. The ideal candidate is clinically excellent, patient-centered, and comfortable delivering high-quality psychiatric care through a telehealth platform.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care

  • Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations and diagnostic assessments for new and established patients via telehealth.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans including psychopharmacological interventions and therapeutic recommendations.
  • Manage a panel of patients with conditions including depression, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder, PTSD, and other psychiatric diagnoses.
  • Monitor patient progress, adjust medications as clinically appropriate, and document outcomes in accordance with evidence-based practice.
  • Provide crisis assessment and intervention as needed, with appropriate referrals to higher levels of care.
  • Collaborate with therapists, care coordinators, and other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure integrated, whole-person care.

Telehealth Service Delivery

  • Deliver all clinical services via a HIPAA-compliant tele-health platform, ensuring a professional, private, and secure environment.
  • Maintain punctual scheduling and efficient patient flow to meet productivity expectations while upholding quality of care.
  • Assist patients in navigating the telehealth experience, including troubleshooting basic platform issues and ensuring informed consent.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Complete timely and accurate clinical documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards.
  • Adhere to all applicable state and federal regulations governing prescribing authority, controlled substances (DEA), and telehealth practice.
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA, licensing requirements, and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, peer review processes, and ongoing clinical audits.

Patient Engagement & Education

  • Provide patient education on diagnoses, medications, side effects, and self-management strategies in a clear and empathetic manner.
  • Engage patients and, where appropriate, their families or support persons in shared decision-making and care planning.
  • Promote medication adherence and support patients in overcoming barriers to treatment.

Qualifications

Licensure & Certification

  • Current, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in the state(s) of practice; multi-state licensure or compact eligibility strongly preferred.
  • Board certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMH-NP-BC) through ANCC required.
  • Active DEA registration with prescriptive authority, including Schedule II-V controlled substances.

Education & Experience

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) with a specialization in Psychiatric Mental Health required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience as a PMH-NP, preferably in an outpatient or tele-health behavioral health setting.
  • Experience treating adult and/or adolescent populations with a broad range of psychiatric conditions.
  • Prior tele-health experience strongly preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Proficiency with EHR systems; experience with behavioral health platforms.
  • Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic reasoning, and psychopharmacology skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build rapport in a virtual environment.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and thrive in a remote work setting.
