What is a remote behavioral health nurse?

A Remote Behavioral Health Nurse is a registered nurse who provides mental health care and support to patients remotely, often via telehealth platforms. These nurses assess, monitor, and help manage patients with behavioral or psychiatric conditions by conducting virtual consultations, coordinating care, and offering education and crisis intervention. They play a key role in connecting patients to resources, developing care plans, and ensuring continuity of care—all from a remote location, which increases accessibility for patients in underserved or rural areas.

To thrive as a Remote Behavioral Health Nurse, you need a solid background in psychiatric nursing, mental health assessment, and an active RN license, often with additional certification in psychiatric-mental health nursing (PMHN).
