We are seeking a Controller to lead and scale our accounting function as we transition through a merger between a fintech platform and a bank. Reporting directly to the CFO, this role will lead the fintech accounting function and work closely with the CFO on the accounting, reporting, and operational requirements of the bank holding company, helping build a disciplined, scalable, and audit-ready finance organization.

We are an early-stage, growth-oriented organization. The ideal candidate is comfortable operating in a hands-on environment where adaptability, ownership, and practical problem-solving are valued as highly as technical expertise. We are a remote-first organization that values ownership, accountability, and results.

Location: Full-time, fully remote. Candidates must be located in the Eastern Time Zone.

Role Overview

The Controller will own accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and process improvement initiatives. A key focus will be strengthening accounting infrastructure, system implementation, and preparing the organization for the expectations of a regulated bank holding company environment.

You will inherit a capable accounting team, including an experienced Accounting Manager and Staff Accountant. This role is intended to complement and strengthen the existing team through expertise in technical accounting, systems, controls, and scalable processes.

The successful candidate will be comfortable balancing strategic thinking with hands-on execution in a growing organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead monthly close and financial reporting for the fintech and support accounting and reporting requirements of the bank holding company.
  • Oversee the general ledger, account reconciliations, internal controls, and audit readiness.
  • Manage accounting for credit and debit card programs, including revenue recognition, reserves, and partner settlements.
  • Own the implementation of a new accounting system and help build the processes, controls, and reporting infrastructure required to support the next stage of growth.
  • Lead and develop the accounting team, including the Accounting Manager and Staff Accountant.
  • Partner with the CFO on cash forecasting, financial planning, and management reporting.
  • Support accounting matters related to the bank holding company structure and regulated financial services environment.
  • Research and resolve technical accounting issues and ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards.
  • Work closely with Legal, Compliance, BSA, Risk, HR, Development, and other business functions to support sound business decision-making.

Qualifications

  • CPA required. Significant private-company accounting experience is required, including ownership of accounting operations and financial reporting.
  • Experience in bank accounting, card program accounting, or other regulated financial services environments strongly preferred
  • Strong technical accounting and financial reporting skills
  • High proficiency in Excel and financial modeling is required.
  • Experience with NetSuite (OneWorld preferred) or similar ERP platforms
  • Sound judgment, ownership, and attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both finance and non-finance stakeholders

About Our Benefits:

  • Competitive compensation and equity participation opportunities
  • Comprehensive Health, Dental, & Vision Care
  • Opportunity to share in the Company's long-term success through equity participation
  • 401(k) plan
  • 18 days PTO, 5 sick days, and 11 company holidays
