About This Role
Seeking an experienced financial institution Controller-level resource to support / oversee accounting operations, regulatory compliance, and process optimization. The Controller will ensure accurate financial reporting, maintain strong internal controls, and drive automation initiatives to enhance operational efficiency. Requires 5 days onsite in San Diego, CA.
Pay Range: $75/hr-$90/hr
What You Will Work On
  • Execute and monitor accounting operations, ensuring compliance with GAAP.
  • Produce complete and accurate financial reports and maintain an adequate system of accounting records.
  • Assist in executing the month and quarter-end close processes and review/release specified manual journal entries.
  • Review and approve analytical reviews and account reconciliations (including aggregation of 40 bank accounts).
  • Prepare or review consolidated statement of cash flows.
  • Leverage SmartView to improve operating efficiencies.
  • Maintain and update documented accounting policies, procedures, and process documents.
  • Support timely and accurate completion of Call Report, Y9C, and other regulatory inquiries (OCC, Fed, FRB).
  • Prepare support for independent public accounting auditors and internal auditors.
  • Manage team of up to 7 resources (some located internationally). Provide mentorship and guidance to more junior team members.
  • Assist with special projects as directed by accounting senior management.

What You Will Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA strongly preferred).
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles in mid-sized banks (publicly traded experience preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, banking regulations, and regulatory reporting (Call Report, Y9C).
  • Experience with Oracle.
  • Advanced Excel skills; experience with SmartView preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead process improvement and automation initiatives.
