Remote Automotive information

What is a remote automotive?

A Remote Automotive job allows professionals to work in the automotive industry from a remote location, rather than a physical dealership or office. These roles can include customer support, sales, technical support, automotive writing, design, and data analysis. Many remote automotive jobs leverage digital tools to assist customers, analyze vehicle performance, or contribute to research and development. This type of work is beneficial for those who prefer flexibility while still being involved in the automotive field.

What does a remote automotive do?

As a Remote Automotive Specialist, your day typically involves assisting customers or technicians by diagnosing automotive issues via phone, chat, or video, utilizing digital diagnostic tools and software. You may analyze vehicle data, provide step-by-step repair guidance, and document each interaction in a CRM system. Collaboration with other remote experts and in-field technicians is common, as is staying updated on the latest automotive technologies. The role requires strong organizational skills to manage multiple cases and consistently deliver high-quality support to clients and partner shops.

What skills and qualifications are needed for a remote automotive?

To thrive as a Remote Automotive Specialist, you need a solid background in automotive technology, diagnostics, and repair, often supported by an associate’s degree or certifications such as ASE. Familiarity with diagnostic software, customer relationship management (CRM) platforms, and remote communication tools is essential. Strong problem-solving abilities, customer service orientation, and effective verbal and written communication skills make candidates stand out. These skills enable accurate technical support, foster positive client interactions, and help resolve issues efficiently in a remote work environment.

Build a Career That Travels With You

At Koch Finishing Systems, we design and deliver innovative surface finishing solutions used across industries — from automotive to aerospace. We're seeking a Field Control Technician (Start-up & Commissioning) to join our team and support the installation, commissioning, and service of automated finishing systems throughout the U.S. This is a field-based position with frequent travel; candidates can reside anywhere in the U.S. as long as they meet the airport-proximity requirement above.

What You'll Do

  • Conduct equipment commissioning, calibration, and functional testing
  • Troubleshoot and debug industrial control systems, including sensors, PLCs, HMIs, and related components
  • Respond to field service calls and resolve technical issues on-site
  • Assist with mechanical installation and start-up of new systems at customer sites
  • Perform preventive maintenance, system audits, and support upgrade projects
  • Interface directly with customers, providing technical guidance and training as needed
  • Work closely with project management and engineering to ensure successful installs
  • Document service activities and maintain detailed reports
  • Travel up to 75% (domestic, with occasional international opportunities)

What You Bring

  • 3+ years of experience in field service, electrical/controls work, mechanical assembly, or equipment commissioning
  • Familiarity with industrial controls (PLCs, HMIs, sensors, relays, etc.)
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams
  • Master Electrician license preferred
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Self-motivation and ability to work independently in the field
  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently
  • Must live within 1 hour of a major or regional airport
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and clean driving record

Why Koch Finishing Systems?

  • $110,000–$140,000/yr salary, plus travel per diem
  • Comprehensive benefits package (medical, dental, vision, 401k, and more)
  • Ongoing training and professional development
  • Work with cutting-edge industrial equipment and a supportive, experienced team
  • Make a direct impact on high-profile customer projects
