Remote Automotive Designer information

What is a remote automotive designer?

Remote Automotive Designers are professionals who create and develop vehicle concepts, designs, and models while working from a location outside of a traditional in-office environment. They use digital tools and software to collaborate with teams, visualize ideas, and refine vehicle aesthetics and functionality. This role typically involves tasks like sketching, 3D modeling, and virtual meetings to communicate design concepts. Remote Automotive Designers need strong creative, technical, and communication skills, as well as the ability to adapt to digital workflows. The rise of remote work has made this career path more accessible for designers worldwide.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote automotive designer?

To thrive as a Remote Automotive Designer, you need a solid background in industrial or automotive design, proficiency in CAD software, and a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with tools like Autodesk Alias, CATIA, and Adobe Creative Suite, as well as experience with virtual collaboration platforms, is typically required. Strong creativity, effective communication, and self-motivation are crucial soft skills for excelling in a remote and collaborative environment. These skills and qualities ensure innovative vehicle designs, efficient teamwork, and the ability to deliver high-quality work independently in a distributed setting.

How do remote automotive designers typically collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams?

Remote Automotive Designers frequently use digital collaboration tools, such as CAD software, shared design platforms, and video conferencing, to work closely with engineering and manufacturing teams. Regular virtual meetings and feedback sessions ensure that design intentions align with technical and production constraints. Effective communication and timely file sharing are essential for resolving issues quickly and maintaining project momentum, even when team members are in different locations.

Job description

Electrical Designer – Aerospace (Remote Contract)

Join an innovative aerospace engineering team supporting aircraft modernization and next-generation electrical system integration. This is a long-term remote contract (12+ months) where you'll play a key role designing complex aircraft electrical systems for high-impact engineering programs.

In this role, you'll develop wire harnesses, electrical schematics, and system layouts using Capital Logic, while creating wiring diagrams, connector tables, cable assemblies, and engineering documentation required for FAA certification. You'll collaborate closely with mechanical, avionics, and manufacturing teams to integrate electrical systems into aircraft, troubleshoot design challenges, and support testing and certification efforts. Your work will directly contribute to the reliability, safety, and performance of advanced aerospace platforms.

What We're Looking For:

  • 3+ years of electrical design experience in aerospace, defense, automotive, or heavy equipment industries

  • Strong proficiency with Capital Logic for schematic capture and wire harness design (required)

  • Experience designing and documenting wire harnesses, electrical interconnects, and system schematics

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and engineering specifications

  • Knowledge of FAA, MIL-STD, DO-160, or similar industry standards

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary engineering teams

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with SolidWorks Electrical, Zuken, or similar electrical CAD tools

  • Previous aircraft retrofit, modification, or modernization experience

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Avionics, or a related field

Note: Candidates with extensive Capital Logic experience in the automotive industry (including OEM programs such as Daimler) are encouraged to apply, even without prior aerospace experience.
