Remote Audio Visual Design Engineer information

What is a Remote Audio Visual Design Engineer?

A Remote Audio Visual (AV) Design Engineer is a professional who designs and develops AV systems such as video conferencing setups, sound systems, and integrated multimedia solutions, all while working from a remote location. They collaborate with clients and teams virtually to create technical drawings, system specifications, and integration plans tailored to specific needs. Their responsibilities often include selecting appropriate AV equipment, ensuring system compatibility, and providing remote support during installation and troubleshooting. This role requires strong technical knowledge, communication skills, and proficiency with AV design software.

What are some common challenges faced by Remote Audio Visual Design Engineers, and how can they be addressed?

Remote Audio Visual Design Engineers often face challenges related to effective communication and collaboration, as much of the design and troubleshooting work must be coordinated virtually with team members and clients. Ensuring accurate site assessments and system integration can be difficult without physical presence, so leveraging detailed documentation, virtual walkthroughs, and clear communication tools is essential. Additionally, staying updated on rapidly evolving AV technologies and standards is crucial for delivering high-quality solutions. Building strong relationships with local onsite partners and maintaining a proactive approach to project management can help overcome these challenges.

What is the difference between Remote Audio Visual Design Engineer vs AV Systems Designer?

The main difference lies in the remote aspect of the engineer's role, emphasizing remote collaboration and design, whereas AV Systems Designers may work more on-site or in traditional office settings. Both roles are integral to creating effective AV systems across various industries.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Audio Visual Design Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Audio Visual Design Engineer, you need expertise in AV system design, signal flow, and integration, typically supported by a degree in engineering or a related field and experience with industry standards. Working closely with our Design Systems Lead, you'll help evolve and scale our design system while enabling designers and engineers to build high-quality, consistent experiences across our trading platform. You'll combine exceptional visual design craft with systems thinking, partnering across Product, Engineering, and Design to improve efficiency, accessibility, and product quality.

  • Support product designers by providing guidance, documentation, onboarding, and best practices for using the design system effectively
  • Contribute to governance processes that ensure the design system evolves intentionally while supporting product velocity

  • Strong understanding of design tokens, component architecture, and design-to-development workflows
  • Working knowledge of Storybook and modern frontend technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript frameworks) with the ability to collaborate effectively with engineers
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG) and inclusive design practices
  • Strong visual design, interaction design, and systems thinking skills with a portfolio demonstrating scalable design solutions
  • Experience balancing consistency with product flexibility across multiple teams and products
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and documentation skills with the ability to influence without direct authority
  • Passion for craftsmanship, continuous improvement, and elevating design quality across an organization

Bonus points for:

  • Experience building or supporting enterprise-scale design systems
  • Experience developing Figma plugins, automation, or AI-assisted design workflows
  • Experience measuring design system adoption through analytics or operational metrics
  • Experience with Supernova, Zeroheight, or a similar design system documentation software
  • Experience with composable component libraries (e.g. shadcn/ui)
  • Experience in fintech, trading platforms, or other complex data-rich applications
